A Landmark Partnership
Porsche and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) have announced a strategic five-year partnership designed to accelerate the automaker's adoption of artificial intelligence across its entire value chain. This collaboration, valued at approximately €1.25 billion,
will see TCS play a pivotal role in Porsche’s extensive AI overhaul, which is planned to run through 2031. The deal signals a deeper move by Porsche into the world of software-defined mobility, where data and intelligent systems are becoming as crucial as horsepower and design. For TCS, India's largest IT services firm, it represents a significant win that deepens its footprint in the European automotive sector.
The AI Mobility Centre of Excellence
A central component of this collaboration is the creation of a dedicated AI Mobility Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Porsche, to be established and run by TCS. The primary goal of this centre will be to transform innovative AI concepts into practical, secure, and scalable solutions that can be deployed across Porsche's business. This is not just about making cars smarter; it's about embedding AI into core functions like manufacturing, engineering, operations, and the overall customer experience. From optimising factory production with AI-driven forecasting to enhancing vehicle software and bug fixes, the CoE is tasked with industrialising AI at scale for the iconic brand.
A Strategic Acquisition
The partnership is further solidified by a major acquisition. As part of the agreement, TCS will acquire MHP, Porsche’s Germany-based management and IT consulting subsidiary, for an enterprise value of €320 million. MHP has a long track record in the automotive industry, specialising in business transformation, SAP implementation, and connected mobility. This move is twofold: for Porsche, it aligns with its strategy to focus more on its core business of building high-performance sports cars. For TCS, acquiring MHP's 4,500 employees and its deep industry expertise provides a substantial boost to its presence in Germany and its capabilities within the European automotive market. MHP will continue to operate under its own brand as part of TCS.
Redefining the Future of Driving
This alliance is about more than just operational efficiency; it's about preparing for an automotive future where vehicles are increasingly defined by software. As cars become more connected and data-driven, AI is critical for everything from predictive maintenance and supply chain optimisation to creating a seamless, personalised customer journey. According to Porsche CEO Dr. Michael Leiters, combining Porsche's automotive expertise with TCS's digital and AI capabilities will strengthen innovation and boost competitiveness in this new era. TCS CEO K. Krithivasan echoed this, stating that the partnership will help deliver the intelligent, software-defined mobility experiences of the future. The goal is to ensure that the Porsche experience remains at the pinnacle of the industry, both on the road and in its digital interactions.
