A Palace on Wheels
The Golden Chariot is more than just a train; it's a travelling luxury hotel that captures the grandeur of Southern India's erstwhile royal dynasties. The train consists of 19 carriages, painted in a regal purple and gold, with interiors inspired by the intricate
architecture of the Hoysala, Chalukya, and Vijayanagar empires. It features 44 guest cabins, including deluxe twin and double-bedded options, as well as a cabin designed for guests with disabilities. Ahead of the 2026-27 season, the train has been refurbished with redesigned cabins, smart TVs, Wi-Fi, and upgraded safety systems. Each guest carriage is named after a dynasty that once ruled the region, immersing travellers in a historical ambience from the moment they step aboard.
Three Journeys, Countless Memories
For the 2026-27 season, which runs from October 2026 to March 2027, the Golden Chariot offers three distinct itineraries, all beginning and ending in Bengaluru. 'Pride of Karnataka' (5 Nights/6 Days): This flagship journey showcases the best of the state. It includes a wildlife safari in Bandipur National Park, a visit to the royal city of Mysuru, explorations of the Hoysala temples at Halebidu, a tour of Chikkamagaluru's coffee plantations, a deep dive into the magnificent ruins of Hampi, and a final stop in sunny Goa. 'Jewels of South' (5 Nights/6 Days): This route ventures across state borders, covering Mysuru and Hampi in Karnataka before heading to Tamil Nadu to see the shore temples of Mahabalipuram and the grand mansions of Chettinad. The journey concludes in Kerala with visits to historic Kochi and the serene Kumarakom backwaters. 'Glimpses of Karnataka' (3 Nights/4 Days): For those with less time, this shorter trip offers a taste of the full experience, focusing on three of Karnataka's premier destinations: the wildlife of Bandipur, the royal heritage of Mysuru, and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hampi.
Life Aboard the Chariot
The Golden Chariot experience is designed to be all-inclusive and effortless. Onboard, guests can enjoy a variety of fine dining options at two restaurants, Nala and Ruchi, which serve a mix of Indian and international cuisines. For relaxation and wellness, the train is equipped with the 'Arogya' spa and fitness centre, which offers traditional Ayurvedic massages and a mini-gym. All off-board excursions are included, featuring guided tours in air-conditioned coaches to ensure a comfortable and informative exploration of each destination.
