Submission Is Not Acceptance
Each year, pensioners must provide a Life Certificate, or Jeevan Pramaan Patra, to their Pension Disbursing Agency (PDA) like a bank or post office, to prove they are alive. With the advent of the Digital Life Certificate (DLC), this process has become
easier. Pensioners can generate a DLC using Aadhaar-based authentication from home or a nearby service centre. Upon successful generation, a unique Pramaan ID is sent via SMS. However, this only confirms that a certificate has been created and sent to the central repository. It does not guarantee that your specific bank branch or pension office has successfully processed and accepted it. A submitted certificate can still be rejected, and if it is, the pension can be stopped.
Why Digital Life Certificates Get Rejected
Rejection often stems from simple data mismatches. According to official sources and banking updates, some of the most common reasons include discrepancies between the information provided during DLC generation and the records held by the Pension Disbursing Agency. This can be an incorrect Pension Payment Order (PPO) number, a wrong bank account number, or even a spelling mistake in the name or an error in the date of birth. Another frequent cause is poor biometric capture; faint fingerprints, common among older adults, can lead to authentication failure. Technical issues, such as a weak internet connection during submission or problems with Aadhaar authentication servers, can also result in rejection. In some cases, pensioners might select the wrong pension sanctioning or disbursing authority from the dropdown menu, sending the certificate to the wrong office entirely.
How to Check Your Submission Status
The first step after generating a DLC is to confirm its status on the Jeevan Pramaan portal. You can do this by visiting the official website, jeevanpramaan.gov.in. On the portal, there is an option to track or download your certificate. By entering your unique Pramaan ID, you can view and download a PDF of the certificate. This document will display the status, showing whether it is 'pending', 'accepted', or 'rejected' by your Pension Disbursing Agency. This check provides the most reliable confirmation, even if you have not received an SMS alert from your bank.
Confirming Final Acceptance Is Key
While the Jeevan Pramaan portal shows the status, the ultimate confirmation comes from the Pension Disbursing Agency itself. After a successful submission, the DLC is electronically available to your bank or post office. Many banks will send an SMS to the pensioner's registered mobile number within a few days to confirm that the life certificate has been processed and accepted. If you do not receive such a confirmation, it is crucial to follow up. Do not assume everything is fine. The downloaded certificate from the Jeevan Pramaan portal often includes a message at the bottom indicating if the PDA has approved it. This dual-check system—verifying on the portal and looking for a confirmation from the bank—is the best way to ensure your pension will continue without a hitch.
What to Do If There Is a Problem
If you discover your DLC has been rejected or is stuck in processing, act quickly. The first step should be to contact your Pension Disbursing Agency directly to understand the exact reason for the rejection. Most of the time, the solution is to generate a fresh Digital Life Certificate. When resubmitting, be meticulous. Double-check that every detail—your name, PPO number, account number, and Aadhaar information—perfectly matches the official records. If fingerprint authentication failed, consider using an iris scanner, which can be more reliable. Generating a new certificate with the correct details usually resolves the issue promptly, ensuring your pension is not disrupted.
