Relief is in sight for travellers on the perennially busy Mumbai-Bengaluru route. Indian Railways has announced seven additional special trains in each direction to cater to the massive surge in demand ahead of the festive season.
A Welcome Festive Announcement
In a move celebrated
by passengers, Central Railway has confirmed the operation of 14 special train services to clear the anticipated rush during the upcoming Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath festivals. This decision addresses the long-standing challenge of securing confirmed tickets on the corridor connecting India's financial capital with its primary technology hub. The special services will run as weekly trains between Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Bengaluru's Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT). According to railway officials, these services are specifically designed to enhance mobility and provide a smoother travel experience during this peak period.
Your Guide to the Special Services
To help you plan your journey, here are the crucial details for these new trains. Train number 01013 will depart from CSMT Mumbai every Saturday at 12:35 AM from October 10 to November 21, 2026. It is scheduled to arrive at SMVT Bengaluru at 11:55 PM on the same day, making the journey approximately 23 hours and 30 minutes. For the return journey, train number 01014 will depart from SMVT Bengaluru every Sunday at 4:30 AM, running from October 11 to November 22, 2026. It will reach CSMT Mumbai at 4:05 AM the following day. These trains will consist of AC 2-Tier and AC 3-Tier coaches, catering to comfort-focused travellers.
Connecting Key Towns En Route
One of the significant benefits of these special services is the extensive list of stops, which will serve passengers from numerous towns across Maharashtra and Karnataka. The trains will halt at 24 stations, including major hubs like Dadar, Thane, Kalyan, Pune, Satara, and Miraj in Maharashtra. Continuing into Karnataka, key stops include Belagavi, Londa, SSS Hubballi, Dharwad, Davangere, and Tumakuru before reaching Bengaluru. This extensive network of halts ensures that the festive rush from smaller cities and towns along this vital economic corridor is also accommodated, providing much-needed connectivity for families travelling home.
Why This Route Is Always in Demand
The Mumbai-Bengaluru corridor is one of the most critical transport links in the country, not just during festivals. It connects two powerhouse cities that drive a significant portion of India's economy. Bengaluru's status as the nation's IT and startup capital means there is a constant flow of professionals travelling for work. Similarly, Mumbai's position as the financial and entertainment centre draws people from across the country. The route is also popular among students, traders, and tourists. This year-round high demand intensifies dramatically during festive periods as people travel to their hometowns, making these additional trains an essential service rather than just a convenience.
How to Book Your Tickets
Bookings for these special festival trains have already opened or are opening shortly. Passengers are advised to book their tickets as early as possible through the official IRCTC website, the RailOne mobile app, or at computerised reservation centres at railway stations. Given that these are special services run during a high-demand period, fares will be subject to special charges. It is always a good practice to double-check train timings and platform details on the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app or website before heading to the station, as schedules for special trains can sometimes be subject to minor operational changes.
