Most earth observation satellites operate in a Low Earth Orbit (LEO), circling the planet multiple times a day. They are like photographers sprinting around a subject, capturing snapshots of different locations with each pass. While incredibly useful,
they only see a specific area for a brief moment before moving on. A geosynchronous satellite, like EOS-05, is fundamentally different. It is placed in a high orbit, approximately 36,000 kilometres above the Earth. At this specific altitude, its orbital speed matches the planet's rotation. The result? From our perspective on the ground, the satellite appears to hover continuously over the same region. This provides a persistent, always-on view, much like a security camera watching over a fixed area, a capability India's space program previously did not possess in a dedicated imaging platform.
A Game-Changer for Security and Surveillance
