In a significant move to boost tourism and strengthen ties, Uzbekistan has introduced a new visa-free entry system for Indian citizens. The initial announcement in late August 2026 promised a 30-day visa-free regime. However, the specifics, which came
into effect on September 1, 2026, reveal a conditional but highly beneficial policy. Indian passport holders can now enter Uzbekistan without a visa for up to 30 days, provided they meet certain criteria. This replaces the previous system where most Indian travellers needed to apply for an e-visa online before their journey. The change is designed to slash paperwork and make spontaneous trips to the Central Asian nation much easier.
The Key Conditions for Entry
While the headline is 'visa-free', it's crucial to understand the conditions. This isn't an unconditional waiver for all Indian passport holders just yet. To qualify for the 30-day visa-free stay, an Indian citizen must hold a valid multiple-entry visa from one of a list of specified developed countries. This list includes the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, and the Schengen Area countries. In addition to holding one of these visas, travellers must also have a confirmed return air ticket to India or an onward ticket to a third country. Travellers who do not meet these specific conditions will likely still need to use the existing e-visa system.
