A Celebration in Carbon Fiber
The Pagani Huayra 70 Derecho is more than just a new model; it's a birthday present. The car is the second of three special 'Huayra 70' editions created to celebrate the 70th birthday of the company's founder, Horacio Pagani. Built by the brand's 'Grandi
Complicazioni' special projects division, the Derecho is a bespoke roadster designed to be a rolling piece of art. The name itself, 'Derecho,' is taken from a rare and powerful straight-line windstorm, a fitting metaphor for a car designed for immense, precise power. This special edition made its world premiere at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, an event known for showcasing the world's most exclusive and exciting automobiles.
The Heart of the Storm
At the core of the Huayra 70 Derecho is a formidable powertrain. The engine is a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V12 sourced from Mercedes-AMG, a long-standing partner of Pagani. This unit produces a staggering 852 horsepower (864 PS) and 1,100 Nm of torque, placing it among the most powerful road cars ever built. That immense power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels via an electronically controlled differential, with a top speed electronically limited to 350 km/h (218 mph). What makes the Derecho truly exceptional in the modern hypercar landscape is how that power is delivered to the driver.
The Analog Experience Reimagined
The centerpiece of the Derecho is its seven-speed manual transmission. In an industry dominated by paddle-shift dual-clutch systems, the inclusion of a traditional three-pedal setup with a gated shifter is a deliberate choice celebrating the art of driving. This transmission, developed by specialists at Xtrac, allows the driver a direct, mechanical connection to the car in a way that modern automatics cannot replicate. The beautifully crafted shifter, a signature Pagani interior element, becomes the focal point of the cabin, promising an unfiltered and engaging driving experience that purists crave. Pagani remains one of the very few manufacturers willing to pair this level of raw power with a manual gearbox.
Artistry in Every Detail
Pagani's reputation for obsessive craftsmanship is on full display. The Derecho features a stunning two-tone livery of Pearl Orange and a deep Inky Blue. The paint is transparent, allowing the intricate 'fish-bone' weave of the car's carbon fiber and carbo-titanium bodywork to remain visible underneath. The roadster features a prominent rear wing and a dramatic air intake that sits above the occupants' heads. Milled aluminum components finished in Glossy Titanium are used for exterior details, matching the custom 20- and 21-inch wheels. Inside, the artistry continues with a handcrafted cabin adorned in Ceramic White and Tricolore Blue leather, with the gear knob and steering wheel's 12 o'clock marker finished in the exterior's Pearl Orange to create a cohesive design.
