A New Prancing Horse Arrives
Ferrari has officially announced the launch of the Amalfi Spider in India, with the open-top grand tourer set to arrive on July 17. This model is the convertible counterpart to the Amalfi coupe, which itself succeeded the popular Ferrari Roma. The introduction
of the Spider brings a new level of open-air excitement to Ferrari's Indian portfolio, targeting discerning buyers who crave both high performance and the inimitable style of a soft-top from Maranello. The car continues a rich tradition of front-engined V8 convertibles from the brand, designed for both spirited driving and long-distance comfort.
Performance and Power
Under the long, elegant bonnet of the Amalfi Spider lies a formidable 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. This powerhouse, part of Ferrari's award-winning F154 engine family, produces an impressive 640 horsepower and 760 Nm of torque. This allows the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a blistering 3.3 seconds, matching the performance of its hardtop coupe sibling despite being 86 kg heavier. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a sophisticated eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), ensuring lightning-fast gear changes and immediate throttle response. The car's top speed is rated at a formidable 320 km/h.
Elegant Open-Top Design
The defining feature of the Amalfi Spider is its advanced fabric soft top. This five-layer roof can be electronically opened or closed in just 13.5 seconds at speeds of up to 60 km/h. When retracted, the roof assembly is incredibly compact, preserving the car's sleek lines and allowing for a generous boot space of 255 litres, which reduces to a still-practical 172 litres with the top down. Aesthetically, the car shares its muscular and minimalist design with the Amalfi coupe, featuring slim LED headlights, flush door handles, and an aggressive rear diffuser with dual exhaust tips. An active rear spoiler automatically adjusts to provide optimal downforce, enhancing stability at high speeds.
A Tech-Forward Cockpit
Inside, the Amalfi Spider features Ferrari's modern dual-cockpit layout, which creates distinct spaces for the driver and passenger. The driver is greeted by a large 15.6-inch digital instrument cluster, while a central 10.25-inch touchscreen manages infotainment and vehicle settings. The cabin is a blend of luxurious leather and advanced technology, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) are also part of the package, ensuring both safety and comfort on long journeys.
Positioning in the Indian Market
The arrival of the Amalfi Spider underscores the growing importance of the Indian market for ultra-luxury automotive brands. The demand for high-performance supercars and grand tourers has been on a steady rise, and Ferrari is capitalizing on this trend by introducing its latest models. The Amalfi Spider is expected to be priced around ₹4.5 crore (ex-showroom). This pricing reflects a recent strategy by Ferrari in anticipation of potential changes from an India-EU Free Trade Agreement, making these exclusive vehicles slightly more accessible to the nation's wealthiest enthusiasts. The model will compete with other high-end convertibles, offering a unique blend of Italian style, V8 performance, and everyday usability that is rare in the segment.
