A Major Injection of Capital
In a significant move for India's electric vehicle ecosystem, Ultraviolette has successfully closed an $85 million Series E funding round. This late-stage investment, co-led by deep-tech funds Yali Capital and TDK Ventures, is designed to fuel the company's
next phase of growth. The round also saw participation from notable existing investors, including TVS Motor Company, Zoho Corporation, and Qualcomm Ventures. A key addition is semiconductor industry veteran Lip-Bu Tan, who not only invested but will also join as a strategic advisor, a move that signals strong confidence in Ultraviolette's hardware and technology roadmap. Series E funding typically helps mature startups scale their operations aggressively, move towards profitability, and expand their market footprint—all of which are on Ultraviolette's immediate agenda.
Fueling a Global Ambition
This fresh capital is earmarked for a clear and ambitious goal: international expansion. While the company already has a presence in around 20 European countries, this funding will accelerate a much broader global push. The company has explicitly stated its plans to enter the competitive United States market by 2027, with broader expansion across Latin America and Southeast Asia also in its sights. Co-founders Narayan Subramaniam and Niraj Rajmohan have long maintained a vision of building a global brand from India, focusing on engineering and design that appeals to international standards. This funding provides the financial muscle to turn that long-held vision into a widespread commercial reality, challenging established players in the performance motorcycle segment worldwide.
More Than Just Motorcycles
The investment will also be crucial for scaling up production and expanding the company’s product portfolio. Ultraviolette is known for its flagship F77 electric motorcycle and the X-47 crossover, but its pipeline is just as exciting. The funds will help accelerate the development of upcoming models, including the Tesseract electric scooter and the Shockwave enduro platform, bringing the company's tech into new segments. Furthermore, the capital will support research and development into next-generation EV platforms, including advanced 400V high-voltage systems intended for global products. This indicates a strategy that goes beyond just selling bikes; it's about creating a versatile and powerful technology stack that can be deployed across a range of electric vehicles.
Scaling Up Production Power
To meet the demands of both domestic and international markets, a massive scale-up in manufacturing is already underway. This funding round closely follows the company's announcement of a major investment in a new manufacturing plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Dubbed the 'BIGGA Factory' for 'Big Global Ambition', this facility is expected to eventually boost the company's annual production capacity to as many as 500,000 units. This represents a monumental leap in production capability and is essential for the company to compete on a global scale. The ability to manufacture at this volume is critical for reducing costs, meeting diverse market demands, and establishing a reliable supply chain for its international ventures.
