A Surprise Blockbuster Emerges
The biggest development is not a future project, but one that has already taken the nation by surprise. The film 'Hanuman Ansh', written and directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, was released on August 7, 2026, with little fanfare. Made on a modest budget of
around ₹2 crore and featuring newcomer Shobhinaw Satyaa in the lead role, the film had a slow start, earning just ₹10 lakh on its first day. However, powered by strong word-of-mouth, the film saw a dramatic turnaround. By its fifth week, it was earning over ₹10 crore in a single day and has since grossed over ₹150 crore in India, becoming one of the most profitable films of the year.
The Story of 'Hanuman Ansh'
The film chronicles the life of Lakshmi Narayan Sharma, from his early days as an ascetic to becoming the revered guru known as Neem Karoli Baba. It focuses on legends around his miracles and the lives he touched. The lead actor, Shobhinaw Satyaa, was reportedly the film's second assistant director and was cast only after the original actor fell ill. The film's success has been attributed to its simple, sincere storytelling, which has resonated deeply with audiences, particularly in North and West India. Following its domestic success, 'Hanuman Ansh' is set for an international release on September 11, 2026, with major production house Hombale Films handling overseas distribution.
A Trilogy Is Planned
The story is far from over. The makers have confirmed that 'Hanuman Ansh' was always intended to be the first instalment of a trilogy. Director Vishal Chaturvedi and producer Namrata Singh have revealed that work on the sequels has already begun. The second film will reportedly delve deeper into the Kainchi Dham chapter of Baba's life and his influence on Indian devotees. The third instalment is planned to have a global scope, focusing on Neem Karoli Baba's impact on international figures like Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, and Julia Roberts.
The Celebrity Connection and Cameo Rumours
Neem Karoli Baba's teachings have famously attracted many celebrities over the years. The spiritual connection of Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma to the saint is well-documented. This has fuelled speculation about their involvement in the upcoming films. Producer Namrata Singh has confirmed she has reached out to some celebrity devotees about making cameo appearances in the sequels. While nothing is confirmed, the possibility of seeing stars like Kohli and Sharma, or even international figures, has generated significant buzz for the planned second and third parts of the trilogy.
Another Biopic Released in 2026
Interestingly, 'Hanuman Ansh' was not the only film about the guru released this year. A separate biopic titled 'Shree Baba Neeb Karori Maharaj', directed by Sharad Singh Thakur and starring Subodh Bhave, was released on May 29, 2026. This film, also planned as a three-part story, was made with the consent of the guru's family and also explores his life and spiritual legacy. While it did not achieve the same level of box office success as 'Hanuman Ansh', its release highlights the immense and growing interest in telling Neem Karoli Baba's story on screen.
