two-track off-roader,” sparking immediate speculation about its most famous vehicle in that class: the G-Class. Unlike simple waterproofing, this technology is designed to give a vehicle true amphibious capabilities, transforming it from a wading-capable SUV into something closer to a boat. The patent describes it as a system for carrying out a “swimming operation.” It’s important to note that a patent filing is not a guarantee of production; it’s a way for a company to protect an engineering idea for potential future use.
How Does It Actually Work?
The core of the invention lies in removable flotation devices, which could be either inflatable sections or lightweight foam inserts positioned within the vehicle's wheel arches. These provide the necessary buoyancy to keep the heavy vehicle on the water's surface. A control unit could even adjust the buoyancy at each corner independently to compensate for an uneven load or strong currents.
