Indian Railways has launched a new daily express train connecting Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) with Sawantwadi Road in the Sindhudurg district. The service, which covers a distance of approximately 510 kilometres, was inaugurated
on September 3, 2026, fulfilling a long-standing demand from passengers for better connectivity to the region. Operating as Train No. 15087 from CSMT and 15088 on its return from Sawantwadi Road, the service is designed as a convenient overnight journey. The train is scheduled to depart CSMT late at night and arrive at Sawantwadi Road the following afternoon, with the return service leaving in the evening to reach Mumbai early the next morning. The train features a mix of air-conditioned and non-AC coaches, including AC First Class, 2-tier, 3-tier, sleeper, and general second-class compartments.
Addressing a Decades-Old Demand
For years, the Mumbai-Konkan route has faced a significant travel crunch, especially during the Ganpati festival, holidays, and summer vacation periods when demand skyrockets. The introduction of this daily service is seen as a major step towards easing the immense pressure on existing trains, many of which originate from other Mumbai terminals like Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Dadar.
