Queensland, Australia’s ‘Sunshine State’, has recognised this shift and is strategically positioning itself as the go-to destination for adventure-seeking Indians. In early 2026, tourism bodies for Brisbane and the Gold Coast launched a united effort to specifically target the booming Indian market, appointing in-market representatives to drive visitation. This move acknowledges that India is a top-five international market for Australia, with Queensland welcoming 77,000 Indian visitors in the year ending September 2025. The state's tourism strategy, including the 'Queensland is Calling' roadshow planned for November 2026, aims to train Indian travel agents on the diverse experiences available, moving beyond just cityscapes. The focus is clear: showcase the state's unparalleled natural assets as a vast adventure park.
From the Ocean Depths to the Sky Above
The Great Barrier Reef is a primary draw, but today’s adventurers are going beyond a simple glass-bottom boat tour. They are getting certified with PADI dive courses on liveaboard boats, snorkelling with sharks, and swimming with Dwarf Minke Whales on the Ribbon Reefs. For the ultimate thrill, skydiving over the pristine Whitsunday Islands or the reef itself offers a perspective like no other.
