A recent report from Anthropic, the company behind the AI assistant Claude, sheds light on exactly where its technology is gaining the most traction in India. The findings confirm a long-held belief in the tech industry: the southern states are at the forefront
of innovation. While Maharashtra leads the nation with 15.5% of Claude usage, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are not far behind, capturing 13.2% and 12.7% of the share respectively. Along with Delhi, these four regions account for more than half of all Claude activity in the country, painting a clear picture of a geographically focused AI revolution. This concentration isn't coincidental; it's the result of decades of building robust technological foundations.
Karnataka: The Undisputed Tech Engine
Karnataka's high ranking is intrinsically linked to Bengaluru's status as India's Silicon Valley. The data from Anthropic shows that Indian users, in general, heavily use Claude for professional work, particularly for complex software development tasks. In fact, India leads the world in the share of AI use dedicated to software-related work, at over 45%. Karnataka, as the heartland of India's IT services industry, is the natural epicenter of this trend. Its vast workforce of engineers and developers are early adopters, integrating tools like Claude to enhance productivity, write code, and innovate faster than their global peers.
Tamil Nadu: The SaaS and Manufacturing Powerhouse
Tamil Nadu's success story is a compelling blend of new-age technology and traditional industrial strength. Chennai has firmly established itself as the 'SaaS Capital of India', fostering a vibrant community of software-as-a-service startups that build and export products globally.
