An Open-Top Italian Spectacle
The Ferrari Amalfi Spider is the convertible sibling to the Amalfi coupe, which arrived in India earlier this year. As the name suggests, the Spider’s main attraction is its electrically operated fabric soft-top, which can retract or close in just 13.5
seconds at speeds of up to 60 km/h. This allows for a swift transformation from a snug coupe to an open-air grand tourer. The launch is a significant event, signaling Ferrari’s intent to bring its latest global models to Indian shores much faster than before. The debut in Delhi, expected to be followed by showcases in Mumbai and Bengaluru, underscores the growing importance of India’s key metropolitan hubs for ultra-luxury brands.
Under the Bonnet: The Heart of the Beast
At the heart of the Amalfi Spider lies Ferrari’s formidable 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. This powerhouse produces an impressive 640 horsepower and 760 Nm of torque. All that power is channeled to the rear wheels through an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. Despite being slightly heavier than its coupe counterpart by about 86kg due to the roof mechanism, the performance remains breathtakingly sharp. Ferrari claims a 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 3.3 seconds, identical to the coupe, and a top speed of over 320 km/h. This ensures that the open-top experience comes with no compromise on the exhilarating performance Ferrari is known for.
Design: Aerodynamics Meets Art
The Amalfi Spider is a masterclass in design, blending elegant lines with aggressive aerodynamic elements. It retains the sleek proportions of the coupe, with slim LED headlights and flush door handles creating a clean, sophisticated profile. The interior features a modern 'dual-cockpit' layout, with a 2+2 seating configuration that adds a layer of practicality. The driver-focused cabin includes a large digital instrument cluster, a central touchscreen, and an optional display for the passenger. Ferrari has engineered the soft-top to provide excellent thermal and acoustic insulation, aiming to make the cabin as refined and comfortable as the hardtop version when the roof is up. An integrated wind deflector also helps minimize turbulence during top-down driving.
The Price of Exclusivity
Owning a new Ferrari in India has always been a symbol of ultimate success, and the Amalfi Spider will be no exception. While Ferrari has not officially announced the final number, initial estimates place the ex-showroom price around ₹4.5 Crore. This pricing is part of what some reports call a new strategy for the Indian market. Of course, this figure is just a starting point. Ferrari’s extensive personalisation programmes allow buyers to create a truly unique vehicle, a service that is in high demand among Indian clients who want a car designed specifically for them. This price positions the Amalfi Spider as a significant investment in both automotive art and high performance.
Ferrari's Big Bet on India
The launch of the Amalfi Spider is not happening in a vacuum. It is a calculated move in a market that is becoming increasingly vital for luxury brands. India's luxury car market is projected to grow significantly, with one forecast predicting a rise from USD 1.58 billion in 2026 to USD 3.15 billion by 2034. Ferrari's CEO, Benedetto Vigna, has noted that while India is currently a small market in terms of volume, its potential is immense. The country has a growing number of high-net-worth individuals and a demographic of supercar buyers who are, on average, younger than their global counterparts. By establishing a strong presence and bringing in new models quickly, Ferrari is betting on India to become a key engine for future growth.
