The Legacy of Personalisation
Mulliner is not just a customisation department; it is Bentley’s personal commissioning division, with roots as a luxury coachbuilder that predate the automobile itself. For centuries, the Mulliner name has been synonymous with bespoke craftsmanship,
initially creating opulent carriages before partnering with Bentley in the early days of motoring. Today, Mulliner serves as the bridge between a customer's unique vision and the finished car, offering three levels of personalisation: curated features, bespoke commissions, and entirely unique, coachbuilt vehicles. This allows a Bentley to be transformed from a luxury vehicle into a deeply personal statement, crafted in direct collaboration with the Mulliner design team.
A Formidable Starting Point
The Continental Supersports provides a powerful canvas for Mulliner's work. As the most performance-focused version of the Continental GT, its aggressive stance and formidable power already set it apart. However, Mulliner takes this foundation and uses it to create something even more exclusive. Recent special editions for the Supersports, such as the 'Design Theme by Mulliner', introduce concepts never before seen on a Bentley, including asymmetric paintwork that fades from one colour to another across the car's body. This driver-focused layout is designed to visually centre the car around the person at the wheel, reinforcing its high-performance mission.
Crafting a First Impression
The exterior is where the first, most dramatic statements are made. Mulliner’s paint palette is virtually limitless; beyond a curated range of premium solid, satin, and pearlescent finishes, the division offers a full colour-matching service. A client can supply any item—a fabric swatch, a favourite accessory—and have its colour perfectly replicated for their car. For the Supersports, Mulliner has created predefined themes like 'Dragon' (Dragon Red to Black Crystal) and 'Electric' (Electric Blue to Dark Sapphire) to showcase these capabilities. These themes are complemented by details like off-centre stripes, pinstripe accents on carbon fibre elements, and even a number '8' graphic on the grille for a motorsport-inspired touch.
A Cabin Tailored to You
Inside, the personalisation becomes even more intimate. The driver-focused theme continues with two-tone interiors where a brighter colour envelops the driver's seat and a darker shade is used for the passenger side. The choice of materials goes far beyond standard leather and wood. Mulliner offers rare stone veneers, hand-painted pinstriped wood, and artisan fabrics. The intricate details showcase the level of craftsmanship, from hand cross-stitching in a near-endless choice of thread colours to personalised embroidery of a family crest or monogram on the headrests. Even the smallest details, like the gear lever and steering wheel, can be finished in contrasting colours to complete the bespoke environment.
Beyond the Catalogue
While curated packages offer a guided path to personalisation, the true spirit of Mulliner lies in its ability to fulfil one-off requests. The bespoke commissioning process is a direct conversation between the client and Bentley's designers to create features that are entirely unique. This could manifest as personalised treadplate plaques, LED welcome lamps that project a custom design onto the ground, or even entirely new components built from scratch. This level of service moves beyond mere customisation and into the realm of true coachbuilding, where the only limit is the client's imagination. The result is a vehicle that is not just owned, but co-created.
