Inaugurated in late 2025, the Infinity Campus is the heart of Skyroot Aerospace's ambitious plan to industrialize rocket manufacturing in India. Located in Hyderabad, this sprawling complex is one of the largest private rocket development facilities in the country,
designed to handle everything from design and manufacturing to integration and testing all under one roof. The primary goal is to move rocket building away from a one-off, bespoke process to a streamlined, assembly-line model. Co-founded by former ISRO scientists Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka, Skyroot has swiftly become a leader in India's private space sector. This facility is the physical manifestation of their vision: to make space access affordable and regular.
The 'One Rocket a Month' Promise
The headline capability of the Infinity Campus is its design capacity to produce one orbital rocket every month. This level of output is a strategic move to address a production bottleneck before it even occurs. By building the infrastructure for monthly production now, Skyroot aims to be ready to meet the soaring global demand for small satellite launches without delay. This mass-production mindset, drawing inspiration from the automotive industry, is crucial for lowering launch costs and reducing turnaround times. The company has explicitly stated its goal to scale up to this monthly production rate to stay ahead of the launch demand curve. This isn't just about building rockets; it's about building them faster and more efficiently than ever before in India's private sector.
Powering the Vikram Workhorse
The rockets rolling off this future production line belong to the Vikram series, named after the father of India's space program, Vikram Sarabhai. The primary workhorse is the Vikram-1, a four-stage rocket designed specifically for the small satellite market. It's capable of delivering payloads of up to 350 kg into low Earth orbit. The rocket family, which also includes the developing Vikram-II, uses a combination of solid-fuel stages and a 3D-printed liquid-fuel engine for final orbital insertion, showcasing Indian innovation in propulsion and materials science. The successful orbital launch of Vikram-1 on July 18, 2026, marked a historic moment, making India only the third country, after the US and China, with a private company capable of orbital launches.
A Calculated Leap of Faith
The headline's second clause—'before monthly launches arrive'—is key to understanding Skyroot's strategy. While the factory is built for monthly output, the company is still in the process of scaling its launch cadence. Following the successful maiden flight of Vikram-1, the immediate plan involves further test flights before commencing full commercial operations. The investment in the Infinity Campus is therefore a forward-looking decision. It ensures that as launch contracts increase, production capacity will not be a limiting factor. This proactive approach is essential in the competitive global launch market, where reliability and availability are just as important as cost. This new era, supported by government bodies like IN-SPACe, is helping to ease the load on the venerable ISRO and dramatically expand India's national capacity.
