New Direct Links to Mumbai
Indian Railways has recently approved a batch of new Amrit Bharat Express trains, with a significant focus on improving connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai. Among the key new services is the Gorakhpur-Bandra Terminus Amrit Bharat Express (15085/15086).
This weekly train will provide a much-needed direct link from eastern UP to Mumbai, departing from Gorakhpur every Friday and making the return journey from Bandra on Saturdays. Additionally, to serve the Prayagraj region, two services have been approved: the Prayagraj-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Amrit Bharat Express (20436/20435) and the Subedarganj-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Amrit Bharat Express (14121/14122). Both are weekly services designed to ease the passenger load from Prayagraj and surrounding areas to Mumbai.
The Amrit Bharat Advantage
The Amrit Bharat Express is not just another train; it's a new category of service designed for affordable, long-distance travel. These trains are specifically aimed at providing a comfortable journey for passengers in non-AC sleeper and general unreserved coaches. Key to their design is the 'push-pull' technology, where a locomotive is placed at both the front and rear of the train. This allows for faster acceleration and deceleration, reducing travel time and providing a smoother, jerk-free ride. The coaches themselves are a significant upgrade, featuring cushioned berths, improved ventilation, modern bio-toilets, and conveniently located mobile charging sockets, including USB ports. These features aim to provide a premium experience at an economical price point.
Easing Pressure on a Crucial Corridor
The UP-Mumbai route is a lifeline for millions, including a large number of migrant workers, students, and families who travel frequently between the two regions. For years, trains on this corridor have been notoriously overcrowded, making it difficult to get a confirmed ticket, especially during festive seasons. The introduction of these new services is a direct response to this immense pressure. By adding dedicated, modern, and affordable trains like the Amrit Bharat Express, the Railways aims to increase seat availability, offer more reliable travel options, and improve the overall journey experience for the common person. This helps ensure more people can travel with dignity and without the uncertainty that has long plagued this route.
What's the New Journey Like?
For a passenger, choosing the Amrit Bharat means a noticeably better travel experience compared to older express trains. The journey is smoother thanks to the advanced semi-permanent couplers that reduce jerks. Inside the coaches, the atmosphere is more pleasant with better lighting, modern toilet facilities, and thoughtful additions like foldable snack tables. Safety has also been enhanced, with CCTV systems in all coaches and aerosol-based fire suppression systems. While the Amrit Bharat is not a luxury service like the Vande Bharat, it represents a significant leap forward in non-AC travel, focusing on comfort, cleanliness, and safety for the everyday long-distance passenger. The faster acceleration also means that despite multiple stops, the trains can maintain a good average speed.
Routes and Key Stoppages
The new services are designed to connect numerous towns and cities along the way. The Gorakhpur-Bandra service (15085/15086) will have major stops including Kanpur Central, Agra Fort, Kota, Ratlam, Vadodara, and Surat, providing wide connectivity through Central India. The Prayagraj-LTT Express (20436/20435) will travel via key junctions like Satna, Jabalpur, and Itarsi. The Subedarganj-LTT train (14121/14122), also serving the Prayagraj region, will pass through Satna, Jabalpur, Itarsi, and Nasik Road. These routes ensure that passengers from smaller towns in UP have direct or easy connecting access to Mumbai. Travelers are advised to check the full schedule and list of halts on the Indian Railways website before planning their journey.
