ISRO centres could approve such exits for scientists up to a certain level. The new directive reverses this, mandating that all requests from Group 'A' personnel, especially those involved in prestigious projects like the Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission, must be forwarded to the Department of Space in New Delhi for a final decision. Essentially, the authority to approve resignations has been centralised and made more stringent, with instructions not to accept such requests routinely until critical missions are completed.
