The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a pilot program specifically for Indian tourists. The initiative aims to cover the cost of a UAE entry visa, making it more affordable for visitors from India to explore the emirate.
This program will initially support up to 20,000 visas and is scheduled to run from August 1 to October 31, 2026. Under this scheme, DCT Abu Dhabi either directly pays for or reimburses the visa fee, which is valued at approximately Dh285 ($77), for travellers who meet all the specified conditions. This effectively reduces the upfront cost of your holiday package.
Who Is Actually Eligible?
This offer is not open to everyone; it is highly specific. To qualify, you must be an Indian passport holder departing from India for your trip. The most crucial condition is that you cannot apply for this free visa independently. The entire booking must be made as a package through participating travel partners or online travel agencies that are enrolled in the program. This means individual travellers booking flights and hotels separately will not be able to take advantage of the visa waiver. The program is designed to encourage package tourism and longer stays in the capital.
The Fine Print: Key Conditions
The word 'free' comes with several important strings attached. The primary condition is the booking must include a minimum stay of three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel. If you split your stay between Abu Dhabi and another emirate like Dubai, you might invalidate the offer, even if your total time in the UAE is longer. Your package must also include a return flight from India. Travellers must be careful to book through an agent that explicitly confirms participation in this DCT Abu Dhabi pilot program. Without booking through these approved channels, the visa cost will not be covered.
What 'Free' Really Means
In this context, 'free' means that DCT Abu Dhabi will cover the standard visa application fee of Dh285. Travellers will not have to pay this specific charge. However, it's important to clarify with your travel agent if there are any other associated costs. Travel agencies often work with Destination Management Companies (DMCs) to process visas, and there could be separate service charges or processing fees that are not covered by the DCT Abu Dhabi reimbursement. The offer is designed to cover the government visa fee, but not necessarily every administrative fee charged by a third-party agency. Always ask for a full cost breakdown before finalising your booking.
How to Navigate the Process
The process is managed entirely by your travel agent. When booking your Abu Dhabi package, you should explicitly ask if the agency is a participating partner in the DCT Abu Dhabi free visa program. If they are, they will handle the visa application on your behalf. The travel partner can either work with a DCT-appointed DMC where the cost is covered directly, or use their own DMC and get reimbursed by DCT Abu Dhabi. As the traveller, your main responsibility is to provide the necessary documents for the visa application to your agent and ensure your holiday package meets all the criteria: being an Indian passport holder, travelling from India, staying three consecutive nights in Abu Dhabi, and having a return flight.
