A New Home for Rocket-Building
In the heart of Hyderabad, a sprawling new facility is changing the face of India's private space industry. Skyroot Aerospace's "Infinity Campus" is a 200,000-square-foot complex dedicated to the end-to-end production of space-faring vehicles. Inaugurated
in late 2025 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this campus is more than just a new headquarters; it's an integrated powerhouse for designing, manufacturing, and testing rockets under one roof. This consolidation is a critical step, moving Skyroot beyond smaller, fragmented facilities like its initial 60,000-square-foot Max-Q campus and enabling a true assembly-line approach to building rockets. The new site provides the physical space and infrastructure needed to transition from one-off prototypes to a steady stream of commercial launch vehicles.
The Power of One Rocket a Month
The headline capability of the Infinity Campus is its target production rate: the ability to build one Vikram-series orbital rocket every month. For a private company, this represents a monumental leap in manufacturing capacity and signals a shift from developmental milestones to commercial readiness. Founders Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka, both former ISRO scientists, have steered the company from its 2018 inception to this pivotal moment. The successful sub-orbital launch of Vikram-S in 2022 was the 'Prarambh' or beginning. This was followed by the landmark orbital launch of Vikram-1 in July 2026, which made India only the third country, after the US and China, with private orbital launch capability. The Infinity Campus is the engine designed to make such launches routine rather than historic one-offs.
Fueling the Vikram Launch Cadence
The primary beneficiary of this new facility is the Vikram launch vehicle family, Skyroot's workhorse rockets designed to serve the booming small satellite market. The Vikram-1, a seven-storey tall rocket, is built to deliver payloads of up to 350 kg into Low Earth Orbit. With the new campus, Skyroot aims to streamline the production of the rocket's all-carbon composite structures and its advanced 3D-printed engines. CEO Pawan Kumar Chandana has stated the goal is to achieve a production capacity of one Vikram-1 rocket per month, though he clarifies this won't immediately translate to one launch every month. However, this manufacturing headroom is crucial. It gives Skyroot the flexibility to build inventory, respond to customer demand, and ultimately establish a regular and reliable launch schedule, something it calls its "Cab to Space" model for satellite operators.
An Orbit of a Different Kind
Skyroot's expansion is a significant marker for the entire Indian space ecosystem. The government's 2020 reforms to open the space sector to private players, managed by agencies like IN-SPACe, created the conditions for this growth. From just one space startup in 2014, India now has over 400. Skyroot's ability to build a factory capable of monthly rocket production proves that private entities can develop and scale complex industrial operations. This capability is vital if India is to achieve its ambition of growing its share of the global space economy from around $8.4 billion to over $40 billion by 2030. The Infinity Campus is not just a factory for Skyroot; it's a symbol of India's industrial capacity and a critical piece of infrastructure in its quest to become a global space-launch hub.
