A Landmark University-Industry Pact
On September 3, 2026, the University of Delhi (DU) and semiconductor giant AMD signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designed to inject industry-grade skills directly into academia. The ambitious collaboration aims to train up to 10,000 students
and faculty members over the next year, equipping them with practical knowledge in artificial intelligence and semiconductor technologies. The agreement was formalized by DU Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta and AMD India's Country Head and Senior Vice President of Engineering, Jaya Jagadish, signaling a serious commitment from both sides to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. This initiative represents a significant step in aligning higher education with the immediate needs of India's booming technology sector.
Inside the AI Training Program
This partnership moves far beyond a typical classroom lecture. At its core is AMD's AI Engage Developer Program, which provides participants with hands-on access to the tools shaping the future of technology. Students and faculty will work with the AMD ROCm, an open-source software platform used for AI and high-performance computing. This allows them to build, test, and deploy AI applications in a real-world environment. To power this, the program includes developer GPU cloud credits, giving users the necessary computing resources for intensive AI projects. The curriculum is supplemented with technical workshops and a wealth of learning resources, ensuring participants are not just learning about AI, but are actively building with it.

Leaders from both organizations have highlighted the partnership's strategic importance. Jaya Jagadish of AMD India emphasized the need to provide students with early access to the tools used in professional AI development. “India has the talent and the ambition to lead the next wave of AI innovation,” she stated, noting the collaboration helps students transition “from learning AI concepts to building AI solutions”. Echoing this sentiment, DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh described the program as a vital bridge between academia and industry. He said the collaboration will help create a stronger pipeline of AI developers and researchers, which is crucial for supporting India’s expanding digital economy.
