The Ministry of Civil Aviation has confirmed this transition, marking the start of operations at the sprawling greenfield airport and the cessation of commercial services at the Vizag civil enclave for 30 years. Developed by the GMR Group, the Bhogapuram airport has been built to handle a much larger volume of traffic, with its first phase designed for six million passengers annually, compared to the previous airport's capacity.
