Power Figures Remain Strong
The headline numbers sparking excitement are an expected 94hp (or 95 PS) and 87Nm of torque. These figures suggest the next-generation 790 Adventure will use the same potent 799cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine found in the latest KTM 790 Duke. This
isn't a bad thing; that engine is known for its punchy, responsive character. For adventure riding, this level of power is a sweet spot, offering enough grunt for highway overtakes and thrilling acceleration on dirt trails without being overwhelming. The engine is expected to be paired with a six-speed gearbox, likely featuring a bidirectional quickshifter for seamless gear changes.
A Radical New Look
The most significant changes appear to be visual. Spy shots reveal a motorcycle that looks much slimmer and more modern. The controversial low-slung fuel tanks of the previous generation seem to be gone, replaced by a more traditional, albeit reshaped, tank design. The front end is completely new, featuring a compact single projector LED headlight with integrated DRLs, giving the bike a cleaner and sharper face reminiscent of KTM's latest design language. The bodywork is more cohesive, and a new long, single-piece seat replaces the old split-seat setup, hinting at improved rider and pillion comfort on long journeys. A taller windscreen is also visible, aimed at reducing wind buffeting at speed.
Updated Chassis and Hardware
While the core frame appears similar to the current platform, the hardware bolted to it sees some key upgrades. The test mule was spotted with WP Apex suspension at both the front and rear, a proven setup for balancing on-road comfort with off-road capability. Another notable change is in the braking department, with new WP-branded brake calipers visible on the prototype. This move is part of KTM's strategy to bring more component development in-house under the WP brand. The bike continues to sport a proper off-road-focused 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel setup, confirming its serious adventure intentions.
Where Does It Fit in KTM's Lineup?
The return of a heavily updated 790 Adventure raises interesting questions about KTM's strategy. The original 790 was replaced by the more powerful 890 Adventure, only to be brought back as a more budget-friendly, Chinese-manufactured option to plug a gap in the lineup. This next-generation model appears to be a much more comprehensive overhaul. It will likely be positioned as a premium middleweight offering, sitting below the larger 890 and 990 Adventure models but a significant step up from the single-cylinder 390 Adventure. For the Indian market, where the 790 Adventure is not currently sold, its arrival could provide a compelling alternative to bikes like the Triumph Tiger 900 and BMW F 850 GS, especially if priced competitively.
Expected Tech and Launch Timeline
The new 790 Adventure is expected to feature a modern electronics suite. A 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity for navigation and media controls is likely to be standard. We can also expect a full suite of rider aids, including multiple ride modes, cornering ABS, and lean-sensitive traction control with a dedicated off-road mode. Given that the prototypes appear near-production ready, a global debut could happen soon. However, some reports suggest a launch in early 2027 is more probable, following KTM's pattern of unveiling new adventure models just before the main riding season. For Indian enthusiasts, its arrival remains speculative, but the prospect of a sharp, powerful, and modern middleweight ADV from KTM is certainly something to look forward to.
