A Masterpiece of Personalization
In the world of hypercars, rarity is the ultimate currency. With only 99 units being made, the Bugatti W16 Mistral is already one of the most exclusive cars on the planet. However, one owner in Singapore has taken this exclusivity to another level. Through
Bugatti's 'Sur Mesure' bespoke program, they commissioned a one-of-a-kind Mistral that serves as a rolling homage to the brand’s rich history and artistic heritage. This isn't just a car with a special paint job; it's a deeply personal statement, where every detail tells a story, connecting the modern era of Bugatti to its glorious past.
Inspired by a Racing Legend
The primary inspiration for this unique Mistral is the 1934 Bugatti Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid Usine. That historic car was a one-off, designed for grueling long-distance rallies and famed for its striking black-and-yellow livery—a personal favorite of founder Ettore Bugatti. This new Mistral translates that classic color scheme into a modern context. The vibrant 'Jaune Molsheim' yellow is contrasted with exposed black carbon fiber, creating a dramatic visual effect. A distinctive V-shape on the bonnet flows into the side profile, directly referencing the design of its 1930s ancestor and bridging a ninety-year gap in automotive design.
The Soul of the Interior
Inside the cabin, the black and yellow theme continues with exquisite leather and contrast stitching, but the true centerpiece is a nod to another branch of the Bugatti family tree. Set into the gear shifter is a small amber sculpture of a 'dancing elephant'. This iconic design was created by Rembrandt Bugatti, Ettore’s brother and a celebrated sculptor. The original elephant sculpture famously adorned the radiator cap of the legendary Bugatti Type 41 Royale. By encasing this piece of family history in amber within the cockpit, the owner has created a tangible link to the artistic soul of the brand. The motif is also elegantly embroidered into the headrests, ensuring the legacy is felt as well as seen.
The Last Roar of the W16
Beneath the artfully crafted bodywork lies the heart of the beast: the 8.0-liter, quad-turbocharged W16 engine. Producing a staggering 1,600 PS, it is the same powerhouse found in the record-breaking Chiron Super Sport. The Mistral, however, is a roadster, designed to deliver an unparalleled open-air driving experience. The air scoops, mounted directly behind the occupants' heads, are not just a design feature; they are engineered to channel the symphony of the engine directly into the cabin, providing an unfiltered, visceral connection to the last of this legendary powertrain. With Bugatti's transition to a new hybrid future, every drive in the Mistral is a celebration of an internal combustion masterpiece that has defined the hypercar era for two decades.
A One-of-One Legacy
While all 99 units of the Mistral were sold out before it was even officially revealed, this particular car demonstrates what makes Bugatti's bespoke program so special. It's a fusion of cutting-edge performance and deep historical reverence. The car is more than just a collection of expensive materials; it's a curated piece of art. From the exterior homage to a 1930s racer to the interior's tribute to Rembrandt Bugatti's artistry, every element has been thoughtfully considered. It stands as a testament to the idea that a car can be a deeply personal expression, a moving sculpture, and a fitting farewell to one of the greatest engines ever made.
