Similarly, feeding confidential or proprietary information into public AI tools poses massive security and privacy risks. In these moments, the smartest move is to log off the AI and engage in a human-to-human conversation, a deep-thinking session, or rely on hard-won experience.
Cultivating AI Discernment
Developing this crucial skill requires a shift in mindset for both individuals and organisations. Instead of just asking, “What can AI do for us?” we must also ask, “Where should we not use AI?” Companies should invest in training that goes beyond prompt engineering, focusing on teaching employees about AI's limitations and fostering critical thinking. Leaders need to create a culture where employees are empowered to question AI outputs and apply their own judgment. For individuals, it means resisting the urge to outsource all cognitive work.
