A Leap into the Global Top 25
IIM Bangalore's flagship Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) has climbed seven spots to secure the 21st position globally in the FT MiM 2026 rankings. This marks a notable improvement from its 28th position in 2025 and 41st in 2024, cementing
its status as India's top-ranked business school for the program. This steady ascent places IIM Bangalore as the sole Indian representative in the world's top 25, a significant achievement in a highly competitive landscape dominated by European schools like the University of St Gallen, which retained the top spot. The overall positive trend for Indian schools saw 14 institutions making the top 100, up from 11 the previous year.
Career Outcomes Drive the Climb
The primary engine behind IIM Bangalore's rise is its stellar performance in career-related metrics, which are heavily weighted in the FT's evaluation. The institute saw dramatic improvements in several key areas. Its 'Career Progress' rank, which measures alumni advancement in seniority and company size, jumped to 69th from 90th last year. Furthermore, the 'Careers Service' rank, which assesses the effectiveness of the school's career support, improved to 8th from 11th. These metrics are largely drawn from alumni surveys, indicating that graduates feel their careers have been significantly accelerated by the program.
Stronger Salaries and Alumni Networks
Financial returns and network strength also played a crucial role. IIM Bangalore recorded an increase in its 'Weighted Salary' score, reflecting better pay outcomes for its graduates three years after completion. While IIM Ahmedabad reported the single highest weighted salary in the entire ranking, IIM Bangalore's overall improvement contributed to its climb. The power of the IIM-B community was also evident, with its 'Alumni Network' rank climbing to 19th from 31st in 2025. A strong and effective alumni network is a critical factor for career opportunities and is a significant component of the ranking's methodology.
Improved Value and Institutional Strength
Beyond immediate career gains, the perception of the program's long-term value has also improved. The institute's 'Value for Money' rank rose to 65th from 78th, signalling that alumni feel the high cost of the PGP is justified by their subsequent career trajectory and earnings. The rankings also consider school-level data, which accounts for 44% of the total weight. IIM Bangalore showed progress in this area as well, increasing the percentage of women on its board to 44% from 40% a year prior. These incremental gains in institutional metrics, combined with the major leaps in alumni-reported outcomes, created the momentum for its seven-place jump.
