Two New Lifelines to Mumbai
The Railway Board has approved two major new weekly routes that directly address the high-demand corridors between eastern India and Mumbai. The Gorakhpur-Bandra Terminus Amrit Bharat Express (15085/15086) will provide a much-needed direct link for passengers
from eastern Uttar Pradesh. Simultaneously, another service, the Dhanbad-Coimbatore Express, will establish a crucial connection for passengers from Jharkhand's coal belt, passing through major hubs on its way south and offering a new path toward the western region. While its final destination is Coimbatore, its route via key central Indian junctions provides new connectivity options for Mumbai-bound travelers from the Dhanbad area.
Routes, Stoppages, and Schedule
The Gorakhpur-Bandra Amrit Bharat Express is scheduled to depart from Gorakhpur every Friday and from Bandra on Saturdays. Its major stops include Basti, Gonda, Aishbagh (Lucknow), Kanpur Central, Agra Fort, Kota, Ratlam, Vadodara, and Surat before terminating at Bandra. The Dhanbad-Coimbatore Express, departing Dhanbad on Saturdays, will pass through key stations like Gaya, Prayagraj Chheoki, Jabalpur, Itarsi, and Nagpur. Passengers from this train can interchange at several of these junctions for services to Mumbai.
Inside the Amrit Bharat Express
The Amrit Bharat trains are designed to offer an upgraded experience for non-AC travel, making them a popular choice for long-distance journeys. A key feature is the 'push-pull' technology, where locomotives at both ends of the train provide faster acceleration and reduce travel time. The 22-coach trains consist of sleeper and general unreserved coaches. Onboard amenities are a significant step up from conventional trains, featuring cushioned berths, mobile charging points for every passenger, CCTV cameras for enhanced security, modern bio-vacuum toilets with sensor-based taps, and a passenger information system.
Boosting Connectivity for Millions
These new routes are more than just an addition to the timetable; they are economic and social corridors. For decades, a large number of migrant workers, students, and families have traveled from the densely populated regions of Purvanchal (eastern Uttar Pradesh) and Jharkhand to Mumbai in search of opportunities. The introduction of an affordable, modern, and direct train service like the Amrit Bharat Express is a significant relief, promising a more comfortable and dignified journey. By connecting industrial and agricultural heartlands with the country's economic powerhouse, these trains are expected to facilitate commerce and make travel more accessible for all.
Booking, Fares, and What to Expect
Amrit Bharat Express trains are positioned as a cost-effective service, with fares that are significantly lower than premium AC trains, aimed at the common person. Tickets for these new services will be available through the IRCTC website and mobile app, as well as at railway station counters. Given the high demand on these routes, passengers are advised to book their travel well in advance, especially during festive seasons. The launch dates for these newly approved services are expected to be announced shortly by the Ministry of Railways.
