Unlike the highly competitive Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) route required for on-campus IIT programmes, this BS degree uses a qualifier process. Aspiring students must have passed their Class 12 exams (or equivalent) with Physics and Mathematics. They then go through a qualifier process where they are taught the material for four weeks before taking an in-person exam. Those who pass this exam can enroll in the foundation level. This unique entry path opens the doors to an IIT-level education for a much wider pool of students, regardless of their background or location.
Flexible Learning with Multiple Exits
The programme is designed with modern learners in mind, offering a flexible structure that accommodates different career goals and timelines. It is broken down into multiple levels. A student can choose to exit after successfully completing the first year and receive a Foundation Certificate. Continuing for another year earns them a Diploma. Those who complete the entire four-year curriculum are awarded the BS Degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science from IIT Madras. This multi-level approach allows students to gain credentials at various stages and learn at their own pace, with a total completion time of up to eight years possible.
