This has spurred hyperscalers like Amazon and Microsoft to commit tens of billions of dollars to expand their cloud infrastructure in cities like Hyderabad and Mumbai. The second major catalyst is the explosive growth of Artificial Intelligence. AI workloads require immense computing power, driving the development of new, high-density, AI-ready data centres with specialised GPU clusters and advanced cooling systems. This shift is so profound that AI workloads are expected to account for a significant portion of data centre demand by 2030.
Core IT Services Get a Turbocharge
The most immediate beneficiaries of this expansion are IT service providers. The surge in new data centres creates a massive need for core services like cloud migration, managed hosting, disaster recovery, and cybersecurity. As enterprises move their operations to these new facilities, they require expert help to manage the transition and optimise their new environments. IT services spending in India is forecast to grow over 11% in 2026, driven by enterprise investments in infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) and application modernization. Furthermore, the rise of AI is creating entirely new service categories. Companies now need partners for AI governance, data engineering for AI models, and the management of intelligent operations. This isn't just about providing server space; it's about offering the sophisticated software and management layers that turn raw infrastructure into a functional AI platform.
The Ancillary Boom: Beyond the Servers

With sustainability becoming a key concern, this also translates into a boom for renewable energy providers, as data centre operators sign long-term power purchase agreements for solar and wind energy to run their facilities. Cooling is another critical area. AI-ready data centres with high-density GPU clusters generate extreme heat, making advanced liquid and immersion cooling systems a necessity, moving beyond traditional air cooling. This has opened the door for specialised engineering firms and manufacturers providing these next-generation thermal management solutions. Physical security, fibre optic networking, and even real estate development are all part of this expanding ecosystem.
New Frontiers: Edge Computing and Talent Development
The expansion is not limited to large metro areas like Mumbai and Chennai. The rollout of 5G is fuelling the rise of edge data centres—smaller facilities located closer to end-users in Tier II and Tier III cities. The specialised skills required to design, build, and operate AI-ready data centres are in short supply. This has led to companies like Amazon launching skilling programs to build a local talent pipeline for data centre operations, covering everything from facility management to compute operations, creating a new sub-sector in technical education.
