Introducing the Landmark Edition
The new offering for the venerable Land Rover Discovery is the 'Landmark Edition'. This isn't just a minor feature shuffle; it represents a newly defined middle ground in the Discovery family. Jaguar Land Rover has strategically positioned the Landmark Edition to
slot perfectly between the entry-level 'S' model and the range-topping 'Tempest' edition. The goal appears to be simplifying the choice for prospective buyers by creating a variant that bundles some of the most sought-after luxury and cosmetic upgrades without requiring a jump to the highest specification. By doing so, it creates a compelling value proposition for customers who want a more distinct and well-equipped vehicle than the base model but may not need every bell and whistle offered on the flagship.
A Nod to Heritage with Modern Styling
What truly sets the Landmark Edition apart is its unique aesthetic treatment, which pays homage to the Discovery's long history. The variant is available in an exclusive new Tasman Blue metallic paint. The company notes that this colour is inspired by the original Clearwater Blue offered on the first Discovery back in 1989, providing a direct link to its heritage. The exterior enhancements continue with a sophisticated 'Graphite Atlas' finish applied to the front grille, fender vents, and the 'Discovery' script on the bonnet and tailgate. To complete the look, the front and rear skid plates are finished in Carpathian Grey, and the model sits on new 21-inch alloy wheels that feature a Dark Agate Grey finish.
An Upgraded Cabin Experience
Inside, the Landmark Edition receives significant upgrades that enhance comfort and convenience, particularly for families and long-distance travel. A sliding panoramic sunroof comes as standard, bathing the spacious cabin in natural light. Perhaps one of the most practical additions is a refrigerator compartment integrated into the front centre console, a feature typically reserved for higher-end luxury vehicles. The cabin is further distinguished by dark grey brushed aluminium trim accents and unique 'Landmark' branding. This branding is subtly placed on the tread plates and within the interior, while a special mountain logo, another nod to the model's adventurous spirit, appears on the B-pillar and is even projected by the puddle lamps.
Proven Powertrain and Capability
Under the bonnet, the Landmark Edition retains the same robust powertrain found across the Indian Discovery lineup. The vehicle is powered by a 3.0-litre diesel engine that delivers a formidable 350hp and 700Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission and Land Rover's renowned all-wheel-drive system. While the engine is familiar, it's a proven performer that provides ample power for both highway cruising and challenging off-road situations. The SUV's legendary capability is further supported by the standard inclusion of the Terrain Response 2 system, which optimises the vehicle for various surfaces, and maintains its impressive 900mm water wading depth and 3,500kg towing capacity.
Finding the Sweet Spot in the Range
The introduction of the Landmark Edition effectively creates a new 'sweet spot' in the Discovery range. It provides access to highly desirable features like the panoramic roof, console refrigerator, and exclusive design elements without the premium pricing of the top-spec Tempest model. For buyers in India, this simplifies the decision-making process. The S variant remains the practical entry point, and the Tempest is the ultimate expression of Discovery luxury. The Landmark carves out its own niche for the discerning customer who values both style and substance. Furthermore, JLR has also made a driver attention monitoring system standard across all new Discovery models, enhancing the safety proposition of the entire range.
