The Philosophy: Balance and Consistency
At the core of Malaika's fitness philosophy is a commitment to balance, not deprivation. She has openly stated that she doesn't believe in starving herself or following restrictive fads. Her approach is built on three pillars: sound nutrition, adequate
sleep, and a strong mind-body connection. This is complemented by a disciplined lifestyle that includes waking up early and staying hydrated. Rather than chasing short-term results, she focuses on long-term wellness, a practice she has maintained since her college days. A key part of her routine is intermittent fasting, where she maintains a fasting window of 16 to 18 hours on some days of the week, which she says helps reset her system, makes her feel more energetic, and improves her sleep.
A Day on a Plate: Simple and Nourishing
Malaika’s daily diet is a testament to her belief in simple, wholesome food. She starts her day with liquids like warm jeera or lemon water and has mentioned starting with ghee or coconut oil before breaking her fast. She breaks her fast around noon with her first proper meal. She recently shared that she has an ABC (apple, beetroot, carrot) juice with ginger around 10 am. For lunch, she enjoys a full, balanced meal that often includes rice, roti, dal, and sabzi. She believes in portion control, sometimes using a specific bowl to manage the quantity naturally, rather than weighing her food. Her evening snack might be something light and healthy like sprouts, and she makes it a rule to have her last meal by 7 or 7:30 pm. Her favorite simple dinner is often khichdi with vegetables.
The Power of ‘Ghar Ka Khana’
A cornerstone of Malaika’s diet is her preference for home-cooked food. She has revealed that she rarely eats out and often carries her own food, even snacks like chiwda, to ensure she’s eating healthy throughout the day. This practice allows her complete control over ingredients, oil usage, and portion sizes. She has debunked myths about avoiding carbs, stating that a little bit of everything is necessary for energy and to prevent issues like hair loss. Ghee is another staple she calls her “superfood,” starting her day with it and incorporating it into her diet. By sticking to familiar, nourishing meals like dal-rice, she proves that a fitness-oriented diet doesn't have to be composed of salads and exotic ingredients. Her post-workout meals are also simple, such as eggs, toast, or dosa, and she prefers homemade protein shakes with natural ingredients like bananas and dates over supplements.
The Workout Trinity: Yoga, Strength, and HIIT
Malaika’s exercise routine is as balanced as her diet. Yoga is the anchor of her fitness, a practice she values for mobility, breathwork, and mental connection. She makes time for her mat daily, even if it's just for 20 minutes, emphasizing that consistency is more important than duration. However, her regimen is not limited to yoga. She complements her practice with a versatile mix of workouts to keep her body challenged. This includes Pilates, strength training with weights like dumbbells and kettlebells, and High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Her HIIT routines often involve no-equipment exercises like jumping jacks, mountain climbers, and high knees, making them accessible to do anywhere. This combination ensures she builds not just flexibility and mental calm from yoga, but also muscle tone, bone density, and cardiovascular health from more intensive training.
