A New Era of Speed and Connectivity
The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express between Jodhpur and Delhi Cantt is a game-changer for commuters. This semi-high-speed train significantly slashes travel time, covering the approximately 606-kilometre distance in about eight hours. This is a notable
improvement compared to other trains on the route, which can take anywhere from nine to over eleven hours. By offering a faster and more efficient connection, the service aims to boost both tourism and business travel, linking the Blue City of Jodhpur directly with the nation's capital in a single, comfortable daytime journey. The train operates six days a week, excluding Tuesdays, ensuring consistent availability for regular travelers.
The Daily Schedule: Timings and Stops
Designed for daytime travel, the Vande Bharat service allows passengers to depart in the morning and arrive at their destination before the evening ends. Train number 26481 departs from Jodhpur Junction at 5:30 AM and reaches Delhi Cantt at 1:30 PM. For the return journey, train number 26482 leaves Delhi Cantt at 3:10 PM, arriving back in Jodhpur at 11:20 PM. Along its route, the train makes several key stops, enhancing connectivity for multiple towns and cities. Major halts include Merta Road, Degana, Makrana, Jaipur, Gandhinagar Jaipur, Alwar, Rewari, and Gurgaon, creating a vital link across Rajasthan and Haryana.
What 'Day-Route' Means for Travelers
The Vande Bharat Express is primarily designed for routes that can be covered in under ten hours, making it an ideal successor to the Shatabdi Express for intercity day travel. A 'day route' eliminates the need for overnight sleeper arrangements, offering a premium, airplane-like chair-car experience. This is perfect for business professionals who can travel to the capital for a meeting and return the same day or for tourists looking for a quick and comfortable commute. The convenience of completing the journey within daylight hours enhances safety and convenience, allowing travelers to reach their final destination with ample time to spare.
Onboard Experience and Modern Amenities
The Vande Bharat trains are known for their modern features that prioritize passenger comfort and convenience. The Jodhpur-Delhi Cantt service offers two classes: AC Chair Car (CC) and Executive Class (EC). Passengers in Executive Class can enjoy 360-degree rotating seats. All coaches are equipped with automatic sliding doors, spacious overhead luggage racks, and large panoramic windows for scenic views. Additional amenities include onboard Wi-Fi for connectivity, a GPS-based passenger information system, and bio-vacuum toilets for enhanced hygiene. Onboard catering services are also available, providing meals and refreshments directly to your seat, ensuring a seamless and pleasant journey from start to finish.
Future-Ready Infrastructure
The technology behind the Vande Bharat trains represents a significant leap for Indian Railways. Unlike conventional trains with a locomotive at the front, these are self-propelled train sets with motors under alternate coaches. This distributed power system allows for much faster acceleration and deceleration, which is key to reducing overall travel time. Initially launched with eight coaches, the Jodhpur-Delhi Cantt service was later upgraded to a 20-coach rake in May 2026 to meet high passenger demand. This expansion reflects the route's popularity and Indian Railways' commitment to scaling up its modern, high-speed network across the country.
