A Major Leap on the World Stage
In a significant achievement for Indian management education, IIM Bangalore has been ranked 21st globally in the prestigious Financial Times (FT) Masters in Management (MiM) 2026 list. This marks a steady and impressive climb for the institution, which
was ranked 28th in 2025 and 41st in 2024. The ranking solidifies IIM Bangalore's position as the premier business school in the country and makes it the only Indian institute to feature in the global top 25 for this category. The ranked program is the institute's two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), its flagship full-time course. This continuous ascent highlights the growing global reputation and quality of education at one of India's most esteemed institutions.
What Makes the FT Ranking So Important?
The Financial Times rankings are considered a global benchmark for business schools, known for their rigorous and comprehensive evaluation process. The MiM ranking assesses pre-experience master's programs based on 19 different criteria. Crucially, 56% of the ranking's weight is derived from alumni responses three years after graduation, focusing on real-world outcomes. Key factors include weighted salary, salary percentage increase, career progress, and value for money. The remaining 44% comes from school data, covering aspects like faculty qualifications, diversity of students and staff, international exposure, and the school's commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. A high rank is a testament to strong graduate outcomes and a world-class learning environment.
Inside IIM Bangalore's Success
IIM Bangalore's improved ranking was driven by significant gains across several key career-focused metrics. The institute saw a notable improvement in its 'Career Progress' rank, which jumped to 69 from 90 in the previous year. Its 'Careers Service' was also ranked higher at 8th globally, up from 11th. Another major factor was the strength of its alumni network, which climbed to 19th globally from 31st last year. According to IIM Bangalore's Director-in-charge, U Dinesh Kumar, these results bear testament to the transformational value of an IIMB education and the global impact of its graduates. The improved 'Value for Money' rank, moving to 65 from 78, further underscores the strong return on investment for its students.
How Other Indian B-Schools Fared
The 2026 FT MiM ranking was a strong showing for India overall, with 14 institutions making it into the top 100, an increase from 11 in the previous year. While IIM Bangalore led the pack, other schools also secured prominent positions. SPJIMR, Mumbai, came in at 26th, closely followed by IIM Ahmedabad at 27th. XLRI Jamshedpur made a remarkable leap of 25 places to land at 33rd, while IIM Calcutta was ranked 39th.
