The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated enforcement action against CG Foods India following an inspection at its facility in Roopangarh, Ajmer, Rajasthan. The primary concerns cited by the regulator were serious violations
of hygiene and manufacturing rules. Inspectors reported finding that broken noodles, collected from the factory floor, were being reprocessed into bhujia products without undergoing any heat treatment. This practice raises significant risks of contamination. The FSSAI also pointed to unlicensed manufacturing of certain bhujia variants and the use of pre-dated packaging, which misleads consumers about the product's freshness.
FSSAI's Enforcement Action
In response to these findings, the FSSAI has taken decisive action. The authority ordered CG Foods to immediately stop the production of its 'veg bhujia namkeen' products. Furthermore, officials seized a massive quantity of stock, totaling over 32,000 kg, which included loose broken noodles intended for reprocessing. During the raid, inspectors also detained 1,925 boxes of expired finished goods found on the premises. The FSSAI has stated that strict legal proceedings have been initiated against the company for these breaches of the Food Safety and Standards Act.
Which Products Are Affected?
It is important for consumers to note that the FSSAI's immediate directive to halt production specifically targets certain bhujia products. The regulator identified the unlicensed manufacturing of 'Wai-Wai MaMa' and 'Wai-Wai Mama Punte' bhujia variants. While the company is widely known for its Wai Wai instant noodles, the FSSAI's order does not constitute a blanket ban on all Wai Wai products. However, as part of the investigation, regulatory samples of various products, including loose noodle material, the bhujia products, used cooking oil, and even 'Wai-Wai Ready to Eat Noodles,' were collected for comprehensive laboratory analysis. The results of these tests will determine if further regulatory action is required.

The company has affirmed that it is fully cooperating with the regulatory process.
