A Masterpiece in Motion
Bentley has officially pulled the covers off a groundbreaking styling package for its formidable Supersports model, and it is a true masterclass in bespoke automotive art. The 'Design Theme by Mulliner' is a bold new specification that introduces something
never before seen on a production Bentley: a paint finish that fades asymmetrically from one side of the car to the other. This isn't just a two-tone colour scheme; it is a seamless, gradual transition that turns the car's bodywork into a flowing canvas. A vibrant, bold highlight colour defines the driver's side of the vehicle, and then meticulously blends across the bonnet, roof, and boot into a deeper, darker shade on the passenger side. This unique treatment, set to make its public debut at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed, is designed to visually emphasize the driver-focused nature of the Supersports.
The Art of the Asymmetric Fade
This innovative paint job is a statement of intent, deliberately centering the car's aesthetic around the person behind the wheel. Regardless of whether the car is left- or right-hand drive, the brighter, more dominant colour is always on the driver's side. The effect is further accentuated by a single, off-centre stripe that runs the full length of the car, but this time aligned with the passenger seat, creating a stunning visual counterpoint. Finishing touches include a number '8' painted on the front grille and subtle pinstripe accents on the carbon fibre elements like the diffusers and fender blades. While Bentley has previously offered 'Ombré by Mulliner' finishes that blend colours vertically over the length of a car, this is the first time the fade has been applied laterally across the entire width.
Three Curated Personalities
To launch this new theme, Bentley's designers at the Mulliner division have curated three distinct specifications, each with its own character. The 'Dragon' theme features a dramatic Dragon Red fading into Black Crystal. The 'Electric' theme offers a more subtle transition, with Electric Blue blending into Dark Sapphire. Finally, the 'Brodgar' theme provides a contemporary, earthy alternative, with Pale Brodgar fading into the darker Brodgar shade. Each of these exterior themes is paired with a complementary interior. For clients seeking something even more personal, Mulliner offers the ability to explore bespoke paint finishes beyond these initial three, reinforcing the division's role as Bentley's ultimate dream factory.
An Interior Built for the Driver
The driver-centric philosophy of the exterior paint is mirrored perfectly inside the two-seat cabin. The interior adopts a corresponding two-tone layout, with the brighter hide colour enveloping the driver's seat and surrounding trim, while the darker tone is reserved for the passenger side. This creates a distinct cockpit feel, subtly shifting the cabin's visual balance. The theme extends to the smallest details, with the gear lever matching the driver's seat colour and contrast stitching adorning the dashboard and headrests. The seats and door inserts also feature a unique perforation pattern exclusive to the Supersports, completing a cabin that is as purposeful as it is luxurious.
Mulliner's Ultimate Statement
The creation of this complex paint fade is the latest example of Mulliner's mission to push the boundaries of automotive personalization. It builds on the growing demand for bespoke features from Bentley clients, with reports showing over 70 percent of customers now specify some level of Mulliner content on their vehicles. This new Design Theme for the Supersports—a model already limited to a production run of just 500 cars—cements its status as one of the most exclusive and visually arresting grand tourers on the road. It represents a fusion of high-performance engineering with couture-level craftsmanship, turning the car itself into a unique piece of rolling sculpture.
