A Leap into the Global Top 25
In the latest FT rankings released on September 8, 2026, IIM Bangalore’s flagship two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) was named the best in India. Globally, it jumped to the 21st position, a significant improvement from its 28th rank in 2025
and 41st in 2024. This steady climb places it as the only Indian business school within the world's top 25, a testament to its growing international stature. The Financial Times ranking is one of the most respected benchmarks for business schools, evaluating programmes on rigorous criteria. For IIM Bangalore, this isn't just a win; it's a statement about the quality and global relevance of Indian management education.
What the FT Ranking Really Measures
The FT MiM ranking is not a simple popularity contest. It is a data-intensive evaluation based on 19 criteria, with significant weight given to alumni outcomes. Over half the score comes from alumni surveys focusing on career progression and salary. Key metrics include the weighted salary of graduates three years after completion, the percentage increase in salary, and the effectiveness of the school's career services. Other factors are value for money, international exposure, and faculty quality. IIM Bangalore's strong performance was driven by improved graduate salary outcomes and a significant jump in its career progress rank. This indicates that its alumni are not just earning well but are also advancing quickly in their global careers.
A Strong Showing for India
While IIM Bangalore led the charge, the 2026 rankings were a story of collective success for India. A total of 14 Indian institutions made it into the top 100, showcasing the country's rising prominence in management education. Close behind IIM Bangalore were S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) at 26th and IIM Ahmedabad at 27th. IIM Calcutta and XLRI also secured spots within the top 50, at 39th and 33rd respectively. A striking finding from the report was the dominance of Indian schools in salary metrics; seven of the top eight highest weighted salaries globally were reported by graduates of Indian institutes. This highlights the incredible return on investment and career acceleration that these programmes offer.
The IIM Bangalore Advantage
What propels IIM Bangalore to the top? It's a combination of a rigorous curriculum, a world-class faculty, and a unique ecosystem. The PGP, its premier two-year MBA programme, is designed to groom leaders for a complex global landscape. Its location in Bengaluru, India's tech and startup hub, provides unparalleled industry access and career opportunities in technology, product management, and analytics that few other campuses can replicate. The institute offers a vast number of elective courses and fosters an environment of critical thinking through various student-led initiatives. The strong alumni network, a factor also considered in the FT rankings, plays a crucial role in supporting graduates throughout their careers.
