The Anti-Crash Diet Philosophy
Malaika Arora's approach to health is refreshingly simple: she doesn't believe in crash diets or starving herself. Her focus is on sustainable, lifelong habits rather than short-term, restrictive plans. She has openly stated her mantra is to “eat clean,
sleep well, and move your body with joy.” This philosophy is built on the principles of discipline and consistency, which she believes make a huge difference in one's life. Rather than viewing fitness as a punishing regimen, she frames it as a mindful lifestyle that prioritises feeling good from the inside out. For her, age is just a number, and it’s the sustainable practices that keep her energised and fit.
Embracing 'Ghar Ka Khana'
At the heart of Malaika's diet is a love for simple, home-cooked food, or 'ghar ka khana'. She has emphasised her reliance on basic meals her entire life. You won't find her subsisting on salads; in fact, she has said she can't eat them and much prefers a satisfying bowl of dal, rice, and vegetables for lunch. This balanced plate of carbohydrates, protein, and fibre is a daily staple. Her comfort food often comes in a bowl, featuring familiar favourites like dal chawal, khichdi, or kadhi chawal with aam ka achaar. She believes these wholesome meals provide far more satisfaction and sustainable nutrition than restrictive diet foods. Even when she has a long day, she carries her 'dabbas' from home to ensure she has a nourishing meal.
A Disciplined Start to the Day
Malaika’s mornings are structured around wellness rituals. She often starts her day with warm water, sometimes with lemon or a mix of jeera, ajwain, and fennel seeds soaked overnight. She is also a proponent of starting the day with a spoonful of ghee, an Ayurvedic practice she considers a 'superfood'. Intermittent fasting is a key part of her routine; she typically has her last meal around 7 p.m. and her first meal the next day around noon. This creates a fasting window of about 16-18 hours. During this fasting period, she stays hydrated with liquids like coconut water, jeera water, or plain water. Her first meal after breaking her fast is substantial and balanced, often including dishes like eggs, toast, dosa, or poha.
A Dynamic Workout Mix
Consistency is the cornerstone of Malaika's fitness regimen. Her routine is a dynamic blend of different disciplines, ensuring a holistic approach to physical health. Yoga forms the foundation, enhancing her flexibility, strength, and mental clarity. She regularly incorporates poses like Surya Namaskar and practices breathing exercises to calm her mind. Beyond yoga, she engages in Pilates to maintain a strong core and good posture. To boost cardiovascular health and stamina, she also includes high-intensity interval training (HIIT), bodyweight circuits like jumping jacks and high knees, and strength training with kettlebells and dumbbells. Her goal is simply to move her body every day, whether it's through a structured workout, walking, or dancing.
Mindful Eating and Hydration
Malaika’s diet isn’t about what she avoids, but what she thoughtfully includes. She avoids supplements, preferring to get her nutrition from natural sources. If she needs a protein boost after a workout, she opts for a homemade shake with bananas, dates, and nuts instead of powders. She believes in listening to her body, which means eating when hungry and never starving herself. For snacks, she might have nutrient-dense options like avocado toast with eggs or makhanas. Hydration is another non-negotiable part of her day. She stresses the importance of drinking plenty of water and other healthy fluids to support her overall well-being. This mindful approach ensures her body is consistently fuelled and cared for.
