maintains the classic, commanding presence of its petrol and hybrid siblings, with only subtle design cues like a revised grille and bespoke wheels hinting at its electric powertrain. The strategy is clear: to offer the definitive Range Rover experience, enhanced by the silence and instant torque of electric power, without compromising on the luxury and capability the brand is famous for. The 'Big-Battery' Breakthrough
At the heart of the vehicle’s long-distance ambition is its substantial battery. The Range Rover Electric is equipped with a large 118kWh battery pack. This significant capacity is designed to provide a driving range estimated to be around 500 kilometres, although official final figures are still pending. To manage the demands of both extreme performance and harsh weather conditions, from desert heat to freezing cold, Land Rover has developed a sophisticated thermal management system that constantly optimises battery performance for range and charging speed. This focus on battery endurance and stability is a core part of making electric touring a reliable reality.
Making Touring Effortless with 800-Volt Charging
A large battery is only half the solution for effortless travel; the other is charging speed. The Range Rover Electric is built on an advanced 800-volt architecture, a technology shared with high-performance EVs from brands like Porsche. This system allows for ultra-rapid DC charging at speeds of up to 350kW. In practical terms, this means a charge from 10% to 80% could be completed in as little as 20 minutes, provided a compatible high-speed charger is available. This dramatically reduces downtime on long journeys, turning a lengthy recharging stop into a quick coffee break. For city use and overnight charging, the vehicle also supports 22kW AC charging, offering flexibility for different scenarios.
Luxury and Capability, Electrified
True to its name, the vehicle promises to be the most refined Range Rover yet. The near-silent operation of the twin electric motors enhances the cabin's role as a calm sanctuary, amplified by noise-cancelling technology embedded within the sound system. This quietness is paired with formidable performance. The dual-motor setup provides all-wheel drive and power outputs expected to be around 542 horsepower, delivering instant, smooth acceleration. Land Rover has also ensured that its legendary off-road capability is not just maintained but enhanced. The instant torque from the electric motors allows for even more precise control in challenging terrain, with the vehicle's battery and drive units tested in temperatures as low as -40°C.
The Competitive Landscape in India
When it arrives, the Range Rover Electric will enter a growing but competitive luxury EV market in India. It will go up against established players like the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and BMW iX, which also offer significant range and luxury features. While the Range Rover's estimated range is competitive, some rivals are pushing for even higher numbers. However, Land Rover is betting that its combination of ultra-fast charging, unparalleled brand cachet, and proven off-road prowess will be a winning formula. The brand's engineers argue they have analysed millions of miles of customer data to ensure the vehicle’s range meets the real-world needs of its target clientele, prioritising a holistic and effortless ownership experience over chasing the highest possible number on a spec sheet.
