What Is the Amrit Bharat Express?
The Amrit Bharat Express is a new category of train designed to serve long-distance travellers, particularly from lower and middle-income groups, who seek a better experience than conventional passenger trains without the cost of premium services. These
non-air-conditioned trains feature modern LHB coaches with a 'push-pull' locomotive setup at both ends, which allows for quicker acceleration and deceleration, reducing travel time. The focus is on providing a dignified, safe, and efficient journey for millions of Indians, especially migrant workers and students, who form the backbone of long-distance rail travel in the country.
1. Dhanbad to Coimbatore
Connecting the coal capital of India, Dhanbad in Jharkhand, with the industrial hub of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, this new weekly service will traverse a significant portion of the country. The route is set to pass through major stations including Gaya, Prayagraj Chheoki, Nagpur, Vijayawada, and Salem. This connection is crucial for facilitating the movement of labor and business travellers between the eastern and southern states, linking key mining, industrial, and textile centers.
2. Charlapalli to Gorakhpur
This train will establish a direct link between Charlapalli in Telangana and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, catering to a high-demand migrant corridor. The service will run through several important cities like Nagpur, Bhopal, Jhansi, and Lucknow, offering improved connectivity for passengers from Telangana to central and northern India. This weekly train is expected to be particularly beneficial for people travelling for work and education between these populous regions.
3. Gorakhpur to Delhi
Adding another weekly connection between Gorakhpur and the national capital, this Amrit Bharat Express aims to ease the heavy passenger traffic on this busy route. The train will halt at key stations such as Basti, Gonda, Sitapur, and Moradabad. This regularised service is a response to the consistent demand for more travel options between eastern Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
4. Subedarganj (Prayagraj) to Mumbai LTT
This weekly service will connect Subedarganj, near Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, with Mumbai's Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT). The route covers several key locations in central India, including Satna, Jabalpur, Itarsi, and Nashik Road, providing a new, affordable option for passengers travelling to India's financial capital for economic opportunities.
5. Prayagraj to Udhna (Surat)
Another new train originating from the Prayagraj region will connect the city to Udhna, near Surat in Gujarat. This route passes through major junctions like Agra, Kota, and Vadodara, linking the spiritual and administrative hub of Prayagraj with the commercial and textile powerhouse of Surat. This connection serves a vital route for trade and migrant workers.
6. Prayagraj to Mumbai LTT (Limited Stop)
In addition to the Subedarganj service, a separate weekly train from Prayagraj Junction to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus has been approved. This train will have fewer stops, running via Satna, Jabalpur, and Itarsi, offering a relatively faster connection between the two major cities compared to other non-premium services on the route.
7. Gorakhpur to Bandra Terminus (Mumbai)
The seventh approved service links Gorakhpur with Bandra Terminus in Mumbai. This weekly train will travel through a different alignment via Rajasthan and Gujarat, with major stops at Agra Fort, Kota, Ratlam, and Vadodara. This provides another much-needed connection between eastern Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai, catering to the large volume of passengers on this corridor.
Features That Define Amrit Bharat
Amrit Bharat trains are not just about new routes; they represent a significant upgrade in non-AC travel. Passengers can expect cushioned seats and berths, mobile charging points for every seat, and modern, bio-vacuum toilets. Safety is also a priority, with CCTV cameras installed in all coaches and an aerosol-based fire suppression system. The fully sealed gangways between coaches reduce noise and improve safety, providing a smoother and more comfortable journey for long-distance travellers.
