First, What Are Amrit Bharat Trains?
Think of the Amrit Bharat Express as a modern, affordable travel option for long-distance journeys. Unlike the fully air-conditioned Vande Bharat, these trains are designed for the common person, featuring non-AC sleeper and general unreserved coaches.
They are built with LHB coaches and feature a special “push-pull” locomotive setup, which allows for faster acceleration and deceleration, reducing travel time. Inside, passengers can expect more comfortable seats, cushioned luggage racks, CCTV cameras for security, mobile charging points, and bio-vacuum toilets. The goal is to provide a safer, faster, and more dignified travel experience without the premium price tag, specifically targeting migrant workers and budget-conscious families.
The Dhanbad-Coimbatore Economic Corridor
The new weekly service between Dhanbad in Jharkhand and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu is a significant development, linking India's eastern coal belt with a major southern industrial hub. The Dhanbad-Coimbatore Amrit Bharat Express (22363/22364) will traverse five states, making it a crucial artery for trade and labor movement. Train number 22363 will depart from Dhanbad on Saturdays, reaching Coimbatore on Monday, with the return train 22364 leaving Coimbatore on Tuesdays to arrive in Dhanbad on Thursday. The journey will take approximately 50 hours and 20 minutes. Key stops along this extensive route include Gaya, Prayagraj Chheoki, Jabalpur, Nagpur, Vijayawada, Renigunta, Katpadi, and Salem, connecting numerous important towns and cities along the way.
Connecting Gorakhpur and Mumbai
The Gorakhpur-Mumbai route is one of the most vital migrant labor corridors in the country. The introduction of the Gorakhpur-Bandra Terminus Amrit Bharat Express (15085/15086) directly addresses the heavy passenger flow on this line. This weekly service will provide a much-needed direct link between eastern Uttar Pradesh and the financial capital. The route is designed to serve a host of important stations, including Basti, Gonda, Kanpur Central, Agra Fort, Kota, Ratlam, Vadodara, and Surat, before terminating at Bandra. By offering a dedicated, modern, and affordable service, the train aims to ease the travel burden for thousands of people who journey between these regions for work and family commitments.
What This Means for Passengers
The introduction of these routes is part of a broader push by Indian Railways to enhance connectivity for non-premium passengers. For travellers on the Dhanbad-Coimbatore line, it establishes a new direct link where options were previously limited, fostering economic and social ties between Jharkhand, Bihar, UP, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. For the Gorakhpur-Mumbai corridor, it offers a more comfortable and potentially faster alternative to existing, often overcrowded, trains. The Amrit Bharat's design, focusing on jerk-free travel and enhanced amenities, marks a significant upgrade over conventional mail and express trains, making long-distance journeys more pleasant for millions of passengers.
Launch Dates and Other New Routes
The Railway Board has approved these new services in mid-August 2026, stating that the regular runs can begin from an "early convenient date." While an exact inaugural date is pending, the schedules and train numbers are confirmed. This announcement was part of a larger approval of seven new Amrit Bharat routes. Other notable new connections include services between Charlapalli (near Hyderabad) and Gorakhpur, as well as multiple new trains originating from Prayagraj and Subedarganj (in Uttar Pradesh) to Mumbai and Udhna (near Surat), further strengthening the rail network across central, western, and southern India.
