Confirm Your Visa-Free Stay Period
The rules for visa-free travel can change. As of August 2026, Indian passport holders are generally permitted a 60-day visa-free stay. However, the Thai government has approved a change to a 30-day stay, which will take effect after being published in the Royal
Gazette. This means the 60-day rule is still active for now, but the switch to 30 days could happen with little notice. Before you book your travel, always verify the current visa exemption duration on the official website of the Royal Thai Embassy or the Tourism Authority of Thailand to ensure your travel plans align with the allowed period.
Check Your Passport's Validity
This is a non-negotiable for international travel. Your Indian passport must have at least six months of validity remaining from your date of arrival in Thailand. Immigration officials are strict about this rule. Also, ensure you have at least two blank pages in your passport for the necessary entry and exit stamps. An expired or soon-to-expire passport is a guaranteed way to be denied entry, so make this your very first check.
Arrange Proof of Onward Travel
Immigration officers will want to see proof that you intend to leave Thailand within the permitted visa-free timeframe. This means you must have a confirmed flight ticket out of the country. This can be a return ticket to India or an onward ticket to another destination. Keep a printed or digital copy of your confirmed itinerary handy, as you will likely be asked to present it at the immigration counter.
Secure Proof of Accommodation
You need to show where you will be staying during your trip. This can be in the form of confirmed hotel bookings for your entire stay. If you are staying with friends or family, you should have an invitation letter from them, along with a copy of their ID or passport. Having your accommodation details organised and ready to show demonstrates that you are a legitimate tourist.
Carry Sufficient Funds
Thai immigration authorities may ask for proof of sufficient funds to cover your expenses during your stay. The standard requirement is to have funds equivalent to 10,000 THB per person or 20,000 THB per family. While some sources quote higher amounts, this is the most commonly cited figure. It is highly recommended to carry this amount in cash (Thai Baht or an equivalent major currency), although proof via a recent bank statement may also be accepted at the officer's discretion. Checks are random, but it is better to be prepared.
Complete the Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)
The old paper-based TM6 arrival/departure card has been replaced by the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC). This is a mandatory requirement for all foreign travellers, including those entering visa-free. You must complete the TDAC online within 72 hours before your arrival in Thailand. The process is free and done through the official government portal. Once submitted, you will receive a QR code that you should save on your phone to show at immigration.
Consider Travel Insurance
While not always a mandatory requirement for entry, securing comprehensive travel insurance is a crucial step for a hassle-free trip. Medical emergencies abroad can be incredibly expensive.
