designed to eliminate this time-consuming step. According to Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths, the airport is investing in technology that allows passengers to keep approved electronics and liquids inside their hand luggage during screening. This means the familiar routine of holding up the line while fumbling with your bags could become far less common, making the entire process significantly more convenient for millions of passengers.
How the Advanced Scanners Work
The new equipment uses advanced Computed Tomography (CT) imaging technology, similar to what is used for medical scans. These state-of-the-art scanners, such as the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX, create detailed 3D images of the contents of a bag. This high-resolution view allows security staff to get a clear and comprehensive look at everything inside without needing items to be physically removed. The upgrade is part of a broader strategy to make the journey through one of the world's busiest airports more efficient. The goal is to create a slicker, quicker, and faster process for everyone.
A Gradual Rollout Across Terminals
While the headline suggests a test, recent reports clarify that the technology has moved beyond initial trials and is now being actively deployed. The upgrade is described as a "gradual, ongoing programme" to replace older equipment across all terminals at DXB. This means that for the time being, the passenger experience might differ depending on which terminal or security lane you use. Officials have confirmed that some machines are already installed, with the ultimate objective to have the new technology available to every customer for a consistent and improved experience. However, travellers should continue to follow instructions from security staff, as they may still be required to remove items in areas where the older scanners are still in use.
