Currently, Pune residents have limited direct, fast train options to Bengaluru, often relying on time-consuming buses or expensive flights. The new sleeper train aims to slash the Pune-Bengaluru journey to about 14 hours, offering a comfortable overnight option that has been long demanded by IT professionals, students, and business travelers who frequently move between these two cities. This strategic halt makes the new service immensely valuable for Pune, connecting it seamlessly with the southern tech capital.
Unlocking Northern and Central Karnataka
The enhanced route isn't just about Maharashtra. Several stops across Karnataka are poised to make the line significantly more useful for the entire state. A new bi-weekly express train, recently introduced to handle heavy passenger traffic, includes numerous stops such as Hubballi, Dharwad, Belagavi, Davangere, and Tumakuru. Furthermore, the upcoming Vande Bharat Sleeper is also expected to halt at key locations like Hubballi and Kalaburagi. Hubballi, a major commercial centre and divisional railway headquarters in North Karnataka, will gain a premium, high-speed link to both the state capital, Bengaluru, and the nation's financial capital, Mumbai. This is expected to provide a major boost to regional business, logistics, and tourism, integrating the northern districts more closely with major economic centres.
