The Final Chapter is Confirmed
The wait is nearly over. The third and final installment of the Hindi Drishyam franchise, officially titled 'Drishyam: The Conclusion', is set to hit theatres on October 2, 2026. This release date is a masterstroke, calling back to the iconic alibi that
has become a pop culture phenomenon. Ajay Devgn reprises his role as the cunning patriarch Vijay Salgaonkar, alongside mainstays Shriya Saran as his wife Nandini, and Tabu as the relentless former IG Meera Deshmukh. The cast also sees the return of Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav as their daughters, with new powerhouse additions in Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj. Director Abhishek Pathak, who helmed the second film, returns to close out the saga he has co-written, promising a definitive end to the Salgaonkar family's ordeal.
The Secret That Started It All
To understand the stakes of the final film, one must go back to the beginning. The 'family secret' at the heart of the franchise was an accidental crime born of desperation. In the first film, Vijay Salgaonkar’s simple life as a cable operator in Goa is shattered when his elder daughter, Anju, is blackmailed by Sam Deshmukh, the son of IG Meera Deshmukh. Sam had secretly filmed Anju and used the video to threaten her. When he confronts her and her mother Nandini at their home, a struggle ensues, and Anju accidentally strikes and kills him. Faced with an impossible situation, the fourth-grade dropout and avid movie-lover, Vijay, concocts a plan not to hide a crime, but to protect his family from a world that would not believe their truth. This act of protection becomes the original sin that haunts them forever.
An Unbreakable Alibi
What followed was one of the most ingenious cover-ups in cinematic history. Using his encyclopedic knowledge of film plots and police procedurals, Vijay created a near-perfect alibi. He took his family on a trip to Panjim, meticulously creating a trail of witnesses and receipts for October 2nd and 3rd—the days Sam went missing. He drilled the story into his family until it became their reality, a shared memory they could recite under the most intense pressure. The stroke of genius was where he hid the body: under the floor of a new police station being built in their town, a place no one would ever think to look. For years, the alibi held, turning 'October 2nd' into a national inside joke and a symbol of Vijay's cleverness.
A Different Path From The Original
While the first two Hindi films were remakes of the acclaimed Malayalam originals starring Mohanlal, 'Drishyam: The Conclusion' will forge its own path. Director Abhishek Pathak and Ajay Devgn have confirmed that the Hindi finale is an entirely new story, not an adaptation of the Malayalam 'Drishyam 3'. This creative decision allows the Hindi franchise to craft a unique ending for Vijay Salgaonkar, separate from the journey of Mohanlal's Georgekutty. While the Malayalam version, which was released earlier in 2026, focused more on emotional family drama, the Hindi conclusion is being positioned as a high-stakes drama-thriller. Devgn has expressed his eagerness for Mohanlal and original director Jeethu Joseph to see the new take on the story.
Will Vijay Salgaonkar Finally Be Caught?
This is the question on every fan's mind. The second film saw a new, intelligent adversary in IG Tarun Ahlawat (Akshaye Khanna) reopen the case, even locating the spot where Sam's body was buried. But Vijay was, once again, a step ahead, having moved the remains years prior and creating a new web of deceit involving an aspiring novelist to take the fall. 'Drishyam: The Conclusion' promises to be the final reckoning. With Meera Deshmukh still seeking justice for her son and new, formidable characters entering the fray, the pressure on Vijay is higher than ever. The title itself confirms this is the end of the road. After a decade of outsmarting the entire police force, the final chapter will reveal whether Vijay Salgaonkar's luck, and his movie-inspired plans, have finally run out.
