Lucknow is set to witness a major boost in infrastructure as the Green Corridor project is being extended to Sultanpur Road, bringing relief to nearly 10 lakh residents struggling with daily traffic congestion. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) will construct a new four-lane road stretch spanning approximately 1.8-kilometres, connecting army land to Mari Mata Temple. This link is a crucial part of the third phase of the Green Corridor, currently being developed between Pipraghat and Shaheed Path.
Once operational, the extension is expected to significantly streamline travel for residents of Gomtinagar Extension by providing seamless connectivity to Arjunganj and Sultanpur Road. Key locations such as the Police Headquarters, Omax City, and Imar Township will also benefit from improved access.
Benefit of the corridor
LDA Vice Chairman Prathamesh Kumar recently inspected the project site and directed officials to expedite construction. He emphasised that integrating Sultanpur Road with the Green Corridor will enhance the corridor’s efficiency and overall utility.
The project, estimated to cost around ₹ 33 crore, is also expected to ease congestion in densely populated areas including Khadra, Sitapur Road, Chowk, Husainabad, and Basant Kunj. Officials believe the new link, combined with the broader corridor network, will help reduce travel time and lower down traffic bottlenecks.
Work under the third phase, including roads, flyovers, and bridges, has also been accelerated, with contractors already finalised through the tendering process. Engineers have been instructed to begin construction at the earliest.
Deadline of road overbridge
In addition to this, authorities have set a June 15 deadline to complete a 1.5-kilometre road overbridge between Paik Pul and Daliganj to strengthen the corridor’s efficiency. The necessary no-objection certificate from the Railways has already been secured.
Officials have stressed the importance of timely completion of the entire project, noting that the expanded Green Corridor will play a vital role in improving urban mobility and strengthening connectivity between Lucknow’s eastern and southern regions.
