What is the story about?
The property dispute between Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar and Padmaja Kumari Parmar, the siblings of the Mewar Royal Family, is now in the Delhi High Court. They are locked in a legal battle over the assets of their late father, Arvind Singh Mewar.
The case was heard by Justice Subramonium Prasad, who directed Lakshyaraj's counsel to submit a fresh list of all parties involved in the case, in accordance with the Delhi High Court's rules.
What's the dispute
The dispute revolves around ownership and control of an array of assets and trusts connected to the former Udaipur royal family.
Arvind Singh Mewar, who died in March 2025, was a prominent royal figure and chairman of the HRH Group of Hotels, which manages heritage properties, including the Lake Palace in Udaipur.
Before his death, he named Lakshyaraj as the only heir to his self-acquired properties. After he passed away, Lakshyaraj went to the Rajasthan High Court seeking Letters of Administration (LOA) to manage these properties according to the will.
However, his sister, Padmaja, challenged the will in the Bombay High Court, claiming it was invalid. This led to multiple legal proceedings running simultaneously across different courts.
Both parties then filed transfer petitions in the Supreme Court.
Lakshyaraj requested that the Bombay High Court cases be transferred to the Rajasthan High Court. Meanwhile, Padmaja wanted the cases pending in the Jodhpur Bench of the Rajasthan High Court to be sent to the Bombay High Court.
In December 2025, the Supreme Court ordered that all related cases be transferred to the Delhi High Court for a consolidated hearing so that the dispute could be addressed in a single legal forum.
The next hearing is scheduled for January 20.
