Haryana Murder Case: CBI Probe Ordered

The Haryana government has handed over the probe into the death of Manisha, a 19-year-old teacher, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The move comes after days of anger, protests, and demands for justice from her family

and villagers.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced the decision on Wednesday. “The state government and police administration are working with full seriousness and transparency to ensure justice for our daughter Manisha from Bhiwani and her family,” he said

“Based on the family’s demand, the Haryana government is going to hand over this case to the CBI for an impartial investigation. Full justice will be ensured in this matter,” Saini posted on X.

Where was the body found?

Manisha’s body was

found in a field in Bhiwani on August 13. She had gone missing on August 11 after leaving school to enquire about admission at a nursing college. Her death triggered massive protests. Villagers blocked roads and refused to cremate her body until ‘justice’ was delivered.

On Tuesday, the state government also suspended mobile Internet, bulk SMS, and dongle services in Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts for 48 hours to control the situation.

What the police said

Police initially said that the

investigation pointed to suicide.

According to NDTV, police claimed that Manisha died after consuming poison. Bhiwani Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar said, “In the viscera sample, the presence of insecticide has been confirmed in the body. So, there is self-purchase, there is a suicide note, there is poison in the body.”

The police said a bag was found near the body. It contained a suicide note, her Aadhaar card, and other documents. They also said there was proof that Manisha had bought insecticide. Post-mortem reports,

police added, ruled out sexual assault.

But the family rejected this version. Her father, Sanjay, said, “The administration is saying that my daughter committed suicide. But I can say that she can never commit suicide. I want justice.”

He refused to cremate the body, demanding a fresh and impartial investigation, as NDTV reported.

Villagers also expressed doubt over the findings. They continued blocking a key road in protest. The anger soon turned political, with opposition parties joining in.

Congress and other parties demanded a CBI probe, accusing the BJP-led state government of failing to maintain law and order.

The protests and political pressure forced the state to act. The government has now handed over the case to the CBI, promising justice for Manisha.
