Global Mobility Trends
The international job market for Indian students has been dynamic. Several countries have made adjustments to their policies concerning work and study
visas. For instance, New Zealand has increased the permitted work hours for international students to 25 hours per week. This change gives students more flexibility to work while studying, thereby helping them gain practical experience and manage their finances. Australia has also facilitated access to employment opportunities by extending post-study work rights for Indian graduates under the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA). These adjustments are designed to attract Indian students and skilled professionals, bolstering the workforce of these countries with the talent and abilities originating from India.
Education & Global Readiness
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 plays a crucial role in readying Indian students for global opportunities. This policy emphasizes holistic learning, aiming to develop students' critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a broader understanding of various subjects. By concentrating on these areas, NEP 2020 intends to equip students with skills that are valued in a global marketplace. It encourages a shift from rote learning to a more practical and experiential education model. This new model will help Indian students compete with their international counterparts and navigate challenges in the global job market. This makes them better prepared for further studies or job prospects abroad.
Visa Regulations Challenges
While there are positive developments, there are also challenges. Canada, for example, has tightened its visa rules for Indian students. In August, approximately 74% of the applications from Indian students were rejected. This indicates a more stringent approach to student visas, possibly influenced by changes in immigration policies. Such stricter rules might affect students' plans to study abroad. Students need to prepare carefully, gather complete documentation, and meet all requirements to improve their chances of approval. This situation underscores the need for students to remain informed about visa regulations and plan accordingly when seeking international educational opportunities.
