July 28 (Reuters) - Hormel Foods on Tuesday named insider and industry veteran John Ghingo as CEO, as the Skippy peanut-butter maker looks to drive growth and modernize operations amid a challenging consumer spending environment.
Ghingo, 53, has more than 25 years of leadership experience across the consumer packaged goods industry, and would succeed interim executive Jeffrey Ettinger, who returned last year after former CEO and president James Snee retired.
Here are some details:
• Ghingo, who will
take over the role from October 26, has served as Hormel's president and board member since July 2025 and previously led the company's retail business, its largest segment by sales.
• As president, Ghingo also oversees the company's food service and international business segments, along with supply chain and global operations among others.
• Ghingo has held leadership roles at various consumer packaged goods companies including at Applegate Farms, a subsidiary of Hormel Foods, Mondelez International and WhiteWave Foods.
• Ettinger, who served as CEO of Hormel Foods from 2005 to 2016, will continue to serve on the company's board.
• Hormel Foods beat second-quarter results estimates in May and said demand for food has remained resilient, mainly with growth in protein, where its portfolio is "well positioned" despite weak consumer sentiment.
